I bought that DVD a week ago (along with the new New York Dolls CD, btw).

It is spectacular. Everyone ought to see/buy it.

I was just going to start a thread on this. I have it on TV right now on Paladia.
Jeff playing style is quite interesting. He uses his thumb, then wraps his pinky and ring fingers around the trem bar and his middle finger tip is on the plastic tip of the trem bar.

My wife and I were just commenting on how distinctive his technique is while we were watching this.
Actually looks like he keeps his pinkie on the volume knob and rolls it in conjunction with the trem...Looks awkward as hell, but it sure works for him....

I caught the show last night on cable. Jeff Beck has been my favorite guitarist ever since I first heard him in the late 60s. He is still phenomenal although I do think he should back off the tremolo use a bit.

That's Tal Wilkenfeld. She is 23, though she looks 13. born 1986 in Sydney. started playing guitar at 14, switched to bass shortly after, and joined up with beck within the last 3 years. here is an article on her, originally featured on Gibson's site:

She's 23. That's not very old. She started playing guitar when she was 14 and switched to Bass when she was 16. Amazing that anyone can reach that level of musicianship in only 7 years. In fact, it didn't even take her that long. I think she started recording when she was 20.

Icame to this thread also to comment on the bass player ,not only can she play but she has a smile that will light up a room. Beck was unbelivable I thought the keyboard player did a great job as well.

Beck has this knack for having the most amazing female players in his group (JENNIFER BATTON) The girl TAL he has now on Bass has as I simply call it the gift.I think your just born with it .I mean so many people can play great and then theres that one percent of artist who seem to be from another planet.

I think that Jeff beck is the best Rock-fusion guitarist, since I heard him in the Yardbirds. He sometimes doesn't even use the trem bar, he just mashes the trem plate.

He has always been in my top five guitarists since I started playing the guitar.

I saw that concert in HD the other night, and Beck is a remarkable player who gets better with time. The cool thing about watching BEck (as opposed to just hearing him) is that he's so inspiring... you think "Wow, how come I never thought of that?", and then suddenly those ideas find their way into your own playing.

As for Tal, she's real good, but hardly otherworldly. I think people over-react to her because she's a cute little woman. I know a dozen guys in my town who can play bass that well or better, but they don't look like 13-year-old girls.
