It depends on what you want and how much money you can spend.

I can tell you that a good friend of mine records amazing sounding, top notch pro guitar tracks, better than most things you'd hear anywhere, and he does it through a Pod plugged directly into his laptop's mic input and into Audition. Of course, he's an incredible guitar player, but his stuff is as good or better than most commericial stuff you'll hear.

I've also heard guys that can't play worth a crap, or can play and have NO ear for tone, takes thousands of dollars of equipment and STILL sound like $@!.

Once again, you missed the point. The point was the poster asked for some suggestions

You know I was going to debate you further on this but very simply you're doing the exact same thing you're accusing me of doing. I tried to provide what I thought was helpful information relevant to the OP's post to try and save him/her time or money...and I've already explained this several times now. I haven't missed -ANY- point but apparently I'm not allowed to have any opinion because your way is the ONLY way that people must follow. Apparently the work I've done with my music and my method is nothing but pure garbage and doesn't warrant any consideration at all. So fine...your absolutely correct. I take back every thing I've said (and once I post this I will delete it all so that no one has to look at my pathetic drivel). I'm sorry I ever tried to help.

I'll shut up now because obviously I'm nothing more than a complete dumb $@! who's not allowed to have any opinion at all relevant or otherwise let alone share that opinion or my experiences for the benefit of others.

You win. Enjoy your laurels.

Eden - perhaps you can elaborate on how you want to use it, and what your budget is...

Are you recording Acoustic Guitar and vocals, an entire band, electric guitars and synths? Do you already have software you want to use, or do you need that also? Different hardware will come with different applications that may or may not influence your choice. Do you plan on running software synths like Reason, or Amp emulation software?

It will be used to record my acoustic guitar with condensor mic's (so i need phantom) i will also be using some mics to record my guitar amp. but i need at least 2 microphone imputs. I will need to be able to plug in some krk rokit 5's for monitoring. It's bassicly a solo project. i dont have too much knolege about midi, but i would lik e2 use a small midi keyboard to record with aswell. with software all i got right now is garageband. but i'm considering logic express 8. but if an interface comes with software it's a big bonus. i have heard about m-audio, but i heard so many bat reviews about them. my budget is around $230-300 US DOLLERS. but i am willing to spend abit more..i also eventually need 2 by condensor microphone ON A BUDGET. and possibly sound treat my bedroom. i really apreciat your help :)

Okay, if you need 2 mics with phantom and you want a midi keyboard, I would take a look at this -

http://line6.com/podstudiokb37/specifications.html

meets all your specs and comes with a great assortment of software to get you started...

Well, they are plastic, and a little cheap feeling- however, they sound great, have a good dynamic range, direct monitoring, are super reliable and the company provides excellent support for their devices. I have had one for 3 years and never had a problem with them. For the features you are looking for, I think this would be an excellent solution. As for the preamps,...they aren't apogees for sure but they are clean and have plenty of headroom for most apps, and the amp farm software has some outstanding models of high end mic preamps that make a big difference when you use them.

Combine this with a pair of AT 2020 condenser mics and you should be cranking out quality sounds in no time.

Yeah..It's got a monitor line out, the Rokits are powered, so no problem...Those should be an excellent match. The KRKs are great little monitors .
