Hi there everyone :o

So lately I've decided on putting some summer job money into another lovely guitar. While I currently have a very nice AmDlx Tele that I adore, I feel as though it's finally time I take the plunge and discover what a quality strat is all about.

I'm currently eyeing the American Vintage '57 reissue. Tried it out, loved it, think it would sound superb through my tweed Blues Jr. I feel as though it would fill any tonal qualities my tele wouldn't cover.

So how do you guys feel about this guitar? I think I'm falling for it but, I want to make absolutely sure there isn't a strat of another sort I should be considering instead. Any input would be greatly appreciated

Pretty, isn't it?

I LOVE the sound of it, it has the reissue '57/'62 PUs which I'm intending to retro fit into my American Standard.

I also LOVE the Surf Green colour option on the '57 (maple).

Not so keen on the tiny frets, 7.5" radius, and lack of 'neck end' truss rod access (it makes it a complete pain to adjust the truss rod). All those latter aspects are just personal preference however.

Really nice guitar 'though, if I were rich enough to let my GAS (guitar aquisition syndrome) issue, get out of hand, I'd have one!!

It does sound surprisingly different to a 'normal' strat.

Whilst i am an eternal fan of the vintage reissues, you really cant beat a deluxe for tonal options. They do exactly what your tele doesnt. Now if they offered em with the beautifull RI colours i'd go for that. That said if its a vintage correct strat that your after then the 57 is a great guitar, consider the hotrod too though.

It's a beautiful guitar, no question. However, and this is not a knock on the 57 RI nor is it implied: Play as many different models of Strats as you can before finalizing your decision.

As said above, the Am Dlx has a lot of tonal options and construction / finish / appearance was beautiful on the ones looked at.

That said, what music are you after? The Am Dlx is SO high quality, it's more a Strat-family-member than what we think of as a "Fender Stratocaster," in this opinion.

The deluxe strat has certainly been another option. What partially had me sold on the '57 was the surf green color; it's just so nice to look at. I'm really digging the vintage white on the deluxe though. I think a guitar's visual appearance is the 2nd thing I look at besides how it plays.

The S-1 on the deluxe's really make them difficult to argue with. As for the deluxe tele I could only get that one extra tone out of it (to 4), but it's the deluxe strat where you're really getting 10 options. I don't know, it really might come down to which one feels better for me in the store. I know for sure though I won't mind spending the extra buck for the '57.

Very nice guitar, in a lot of ways.

But like every other "you tell me what I should get" strings, I couldn't possibly tell you what YOU like. If you love this guitar, get it. It's nice, quality, will last a long time, no need to ever change a thing on it, etc.

If you're not 100000% sure its the right one for you, then it probably isn't. Try out a ton of strats and you'll find that perfect one. NEVER settle for anything in a guitar. You'll just hate yourself for doing it when you're unhappy with it every single time you pick it up.

Nice looking guitar. When the time comes, play as many in the store that you can (all different models) and decide if that is "THE ONE" you really want. Let us know what you decide. Have fun with whatever you get.

Another thought if you like Surf Green (which this picker did in '03); buy an MIJ 50s Reissue in Surf Green and it's a third the price of an Am Std. 'Had it pro setup and run 11 flatwounds, and it's delightful.

Then reconsider the magnificent Am Deluxe in the light of having-a surf green Strat (which is still cool, 6 years later).
