I did a search and wasn't able to find out much information. However, I found this lovely forum. So I'm hoping you can help me out...

I'm curious to know what is the thickest neck made from Fender. I was looking into getting a Custom Shop Strat made and was looking to get a REALLY thick neck (think thicker then a NoCaster). I've looked at a lot of specs, but none of them give a concrete measurement of actual neck size (just neck radius). I was hoping someone can shine a light onto neck sizes for me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The Nocaster neck is the thickest neck Fender makes. However, I'm sure the Custom Shop could create a thicker neck as a Masterbuilt guitar. You could request a thicker Nocaster neck and even communicate directly with the builder to talk about specifics when the invoice finally reaches the workbench.

The 59 reissue from Wildwood is supposed to be like a baseball bat with frets.

Hello Wsender,

Firstly, welcome to the forum.

On todays regular production Stratocasters
'62 hotrod is the thickest followed by the
Kenny Wayne Shepherd and SRV models.

On Telecasters the GE Smith is the largest.

I don't have big hands but I find the larger
necks offer more comfort and less fatigue.

Of course the Custom shop can fill your needs.

Cheers.

Mr Bill

I had asked a similar question in the CS Forum, but no answer yet.

Can you describe the difference in thickness/feel between the Eric Johnson and a Clapton especially compared to the current American Strat (non deluxe)?

I'm looking for a neck to spec for a CS guitar that is close to the Warmoth "boat" profile but with a distinct V profile/shape.

I have been chasing that "perfect" neck for some time and think it's time to stop throwing money. Maybe I'll have to take the 2.5 hour trip to a store that has in stock some of the various models that might be contenders.

Hello Flashback From the 60s,

EJ & EC both have modified V necks and
are especially comfortable if your of the
nature to "hang" your thumb, both are
similar in feel.

Sure enough a road trip is in order.
Best of luck on your quest.

Cheers.

Th EJ is the one that I tried in March and thought the neck had a good feel to it, but then when I went back on Friday to try it again, it seemed to feel much smaller than I had remembered.

I'm planning to try to get out on the road later this week and find out what I can.

Thanks for the input.

Its a widely held belief that the first jeff beck signature guitars had a insanely thick U neck that fender have never reproduced. It was only on the first run so good luck finding one to try.

That said i'm sure if you go with the masterbuilt option then any desire for a huge neck will receive the attention and questioning it deserves. Maybe handle a baja tele neck and refer back to it as a point of reference for the masterbuilder.

I use thick necks. My '69 custom shop has a U shape and its the best neck i'v played on. I had a a go on a '62 hot rod and thats got to be the thickest i'v played on, which i really liked too. If you want just generally a thick neck, I'd advise the hot rod from my little experience.
