Can anyone tell me what is the significance of a sticker "Special Edition" on my 2003 MIM stratocaster? It is black serial # Mz3202942? I just purchased in April /09 and actually did not notice until home so did not ask at retailer. I can provide pics and more info if it can help. Thanks for any help.

I'm assuming that means limited numbers? Is there a website or way to identify the physical differences if any of a particular limited run? I assume again that there is some particular physical characteristics a retailer may order for the guitar? Thanks again.

No way to tell without pictures  Serial numbers can date them but with a pic we can get idea of model. Just because it has a special addition sticker is on there does not nessary mean it is something special. Please post pictures.
We on the forum like to see pictures of member guitars.

Retailers will sometimes commision fender to build a guitar for them and more often then not it will be a group of retailers and they will have Fender make a FSR (Factory Special Run) You can not look them up as models since they are not regular production guitar, most cases you have to find the dealers who had them made or Fender. Fender themself have records to match the serial number but they are not made redy available.
That is if what you have is a Limited Factory Special. Most do not have stickers on them though. Here is a picture of a Factory Special Run that was made for a group a retailers, they made 831 of these and it was call a Straight Six Startocaster.it had no sticker. People can put stickers on anything! Don't always believe a sticker with out research.

Thanks. I thought it was not as implied being something "special". I guess I should contact the retailer. They did say it was the last one in the store. The prices went up substantially...%20 or so shortly afterward. I did get a very good deal. $400 can. Thx again.

Five Years :!:  I knew they were around for many years. They were not considerd FSR's I don't think. Most FSR guitars seem to be limited runs of 1000 or less, probably takes them 3 or 4 weeks to make them. A model made for 5 years you are no doubt talking about many many thousands I think the Strats that they label now as Special editions are the Startocaster 12 string and the Arodyne Classic and I don't think they limit there numbers to any special amount made.
