You'll need to loosen the screws and nuts to get the plastic out from underneath them.

Just unscrew the pickguard, maybe loosen the pots a bit and push the
pickups up a little, worked for me. You can leave the strings on.
10 minutes work at the most.
I forgot to mention remove the vol. and tone knobs and loosen the
switchscrews.

I use two heavy gauge picks to lift up the knobs and get the plastic *completely* removed.
