By bullet strings I assume you mean like Fender Super bullets? I used them in my Tele for about a month and the thing just would NOT stay in tune. I'd tune it, play it, then maybe put it down for an hour or so. Then when I'd pick it up again I'd need to re-tune it. And it'd be out quite a bit. I've just got "normal" strings on it now and it stays in tune perfectly. About once a week it might just need a slight tweak on a couple of strings but that's all. That's just my experience with them anyway...

Hi mhainz: the point of Fender Bullets is that the "bullet" end fits snuggly into the hole in a Strat's vibrato bridge block. The idea is that it won't move around at all with trem use and so intonation stays more stable.

All of that's neither here nor there with a Tele.

And to Arctic Bass's second question, I use Super Bullets, Rotosound and D'Addario strings fairly indiscriminately (though not mixing them within a set) and can't say I've noticed a significant difference regarding intonation. I go light to middling on my trem: with that type of use the bullet ends don't seem to give a particular advantage.

Sometimes they drop out easier on a string change, perhaps...?

Never tried GHS strings.

Cheers - C

Hi Arctic Bass,

I've used the GHS gilmour strings, good sound. The bass strings are nice and rich sounding they have a unique feeling to them. While the nickel strings are very similar to anything else, they are nothing special really. Overall a potential candidate for mix and matching a custom set (boomer strings). Also something i noted was that the smaller strings didint seem to last quite aslong as say Ernie balls or any other competition. They always seemed to get those nasty knicks in them before the other sets.

All in all try them, you just might like them

Cheers,
Pat

I use them in both of my strats and I love them. The tone is nice but I really like them for the custom gauges. They really allow for those big Gilmourish bends without being too thin. And the heavier wound strings are great for a thicker bottom end.

i used them for about 6 months and then i
went back to the strings i have been using
for years. Ernie Ball Regular Slinky's (10-46)
in my opinion they have better stability and longer
string life.

Thanks for that info Ceri. I had no idea they were intended for the trem block of a Strat. Which totally makes sense now you mention it. They WERE easier to get out though.
Cheers.

Just while we're at it, there's a curious thing about those Bullet strings. If I've understood right, the brass "bullet" end is manufactured in Germany. Seems slightly odd, doesn't it? For certain, America is full of companies that can produce small pieces of machined brass. And the work sure as heck ain't being contracted out to Germany to find lower wage costs!

I don't know if the brass ends are sent to Mexico (where Fender's strings are made) and attached to the strings there. Or whether the strings are sent to Germany, the bullets moulded onto them and then the whole thing sent all the way back. Often then to be exported again to Europe as finished packets of strings. Whichever: that's a lot of miles some sea containers full of strings are clocking up!

Strange are the ways of business...

Cheers - C
