I need help finding out what this is. I have an offer for a trade I just don't know much about fender guitars to tell what exactly this is... Any info would help. I don't know what model and the bridge looks a little strange.
The guy said it's from the 80's but how can I tell for sure? I tried the product dating and think it might be a 89'-90' who knows...
Thanks...

IF that guitar is all original, then it is a 1983 Strat. The design that almost killed the guitar off before Fender was saved by the new owners, it featured two huge cost-cutting measures: an output jack mounted on the pickguard and the dreaded FreeFlyte trem (aptly named as it seemed to have a whimsical mind of it's own when it came to maintaining pitch). It has no back routing or output jack routing, and so is difficult to mod to modern spec.

If you haven't already bought it, don't.

Currently selling for between £800-£1200 in england. American prices wont be too far away from that. Not the best players guitar but becoming collectable.

Here's a reputable Australian dealer trying to find something positive to say about the '83 strat:

In late 1981 Fender redesigned the Standard Stratocaster. The Strat now had the Small headstock like the Gold CA Strat & The Strat guitars from the early 1980 and 1981. The three bolt Micro Tilt Neck was gone, together with the Bullet Truss rod.

The Four Bolt Neck plate was a welcome sight, as too was the more accurate Small headstock, as the "the Strat" peg was quite different from the pre December 1965 shape.

Fender also moved to a Volume & Tone Set up with the Jack socket in the guard. With Bill Schultz, John McLaren & Dan Smith from Yamaha working to turn the Fender Ship around, there were many changes to come in the unclear future of Fender.

This Standard Strat is one of the first to receive the small decal.

...They will probably get that price for it eventually, but it has been sitting there for a while! Don't trade anything too desirable for it.
