Today I tryed an American Deluxe Stratocaster and for a long time I been thinking of buying one but today I notice a couple of things. When I played the guitar it felt like dirt came between my hand and the neck even when my hands where clean. I whiped the neck of but still felt the problem is it the lacker thats coming of becuse of my warm hands? The guitar did'nt stay in tune wery well either. I also felt that the guitar did'nt have any "umpf" when I played the high E, and I tryed 2 amps. Mabe it was not set up very well? What do you think?

I have a lot of respect for Fender engineers. I've got a Highway One and the AmDx is much more expensive, and they've loaded it with features. The paint is super durable and thick. It's going to look mint, where mine with thin paint will look aged before long as much as I play it. Also, it's got the big all stainless steel double point bridge design, which isn't custom shop but it's the top of the factory line. Should help sustain I think. It's got the S-1 switching giving something like 7 or 9 settings from the five point switch (some of the arithmetical 10 are duplicates). It's got extra care and hand rolled edges on the neck. It's got locking tuners from Shaler/Fender or Ping. It's got the latest totally noiseless pickups - the SCN noiseless - also favored by the Custom Shop for the Custom Shop Pro and the custom designed (but not built) Hotrod '57 (beautiful guitar!). It's loaded.

I sat down and played it and I sounded better on it with less uninteded string hum than I ever thought possible. I mean, there's no hum from those SCN noiseless at all, which is amazing, but they still have a Fender sound.

All in all though, I know what you're saying because the AmDx just didn't fit me. I like the vintage bridge on my Highway One. I'd prefer a custom shop stainless steel saddle bridge but that'll be an upgrade.

The AmDx struck me as heavy maybe because of the thick paint. I like the light Highway One. It's a trade-off because the AmDx has great durability. I think it's really a break-in issue.

The one I played also was sounding kind of wrong. Dead or thin. I'm sure it was the set up. I played the SCN noiselss on the Hotrod '57 and they were awesome.

For me, I would say that I respect the AmDx and that it's a great guitar. If I had that budget, and I don't, I would probably stretch it a little more and get the Hotrod '57. That's one of the most incredible guitars I ever got a chance to play. Candy apple red, too. Wow.
