can the pickguard be changed to any other pickguard while keeping the button. If drilling is needed, do you know what drill bit size should be used?

Off the top of my head, I don't know the drill bit size however, you should be able to size that up quite easily.

The foundation for that switch is glued onto the pickguard and then, the switch itself is screwed into the foundation, thus mounting it in place. I must presume the glue is some form of epoxy. Consequently, you'll first have to get the foundation separated from the original pickguard without collateral damage or try to order the foundation from a Fender dealer (if they even sell it separately).

I removed that lug from one of those in this manner.I removed all of the electronics from the pickguard, then used an xacto knife to scrape away the excess glue around the lug, then I heated the area around the lug with a head gun as I didn't care about the old pickguard I only wanted the lug. After heating it slightly I took a pair of pliers and griped the lug and off it came.I then set the old guard on the new one and traced the location of the hole and drilled it with a unibit, these leave a very round hole.I had earlier noted the orientation of the lug and glued it on the new pickguard with some super glue made especially for plastic that I got at Home Depot,it comes with a primer to help bond plastic. All this worked great and now I have a perloid cover with the 7 way switch in it and it is holding up with no problems. Also that lug does have a part number if you go to the parts list for that guitar it is in there.cheers
