I have an american deluxe strat and Im in love with it. It plays fast and it sounds great but theres a problem its single coils and twenty two frets dont get it done when it comes to shred and neoclassical shred like a love to play every now and then. I have tried other brands (I have a gibson les paul studio and a jackson kelly) but theres nothing like that strat feel.

So.... is there a strat that can shred?

You can play metal with single coils, however if you want to go with humbuckers all you have to do is get some replacement pickups.
There are the stacked humbuckers, (like Semour Duncan Hot Rails) that fit into single coil sized slots. As far as the extended fretboard thing goes, I don't know. I don't think I know of any Fender with more than 22 frets.

That guitar can shred if you change the pick-ups to something hotter than what is in it now. You can throw some Dimarzio Super Distortions or EMG 85's in it and I think you would like it a lot better as far as tone. As far as 24 fret guitars...I really do not think there is a Fender out there new that goes higher without a serious modification.

If you are looking for a guitar that can shred...look at the BC Rich Warlock or Jackson V...Not a Strat but it does have the bite you are looking for.

You would love my HM Strat, built for shredders. It has ALL the goodies
It has one of the best necks I have ever played. 24 frets, wide, flat thin, med/jumbo frets, 16' radius, sculpted body, easy access to high notes due to contoured heel and neckplate. Mine has an HSS EMG pickup set of 81/SA with a preamp booster. Kahler Spyder locking trem. Smooth, sweet, wicked, fast and sounds great. Oh yeah, and mine is Made In USA too!!!!
I also have a 1996 Fat Strat, and the stock humbucker sounds really good too. Also nice for rock/metal/shred.

I have zero experience when it comes to shred or any of that business -- and I'm adamant in my hatred of any guitar with the awful Floyd Rose -- but this made me go look at BC Rich's website. I've always thought their guitars ranged from hideous (mockingbird) to absurd (warlock), but I found one I kind of liked. If you ditched the FRT, this would be a perfect instrument: http://www.bcrich.com/gunslinger_retro.asp

You should look for one of these Squier Stagemaster neck-through guitars. You can get them for $150-$200 usually. I think they are one of the most underestimated guitars ever made. They were made in Hum/Hum and Hum/Sing/Hum designs. Built solid, 24-Jumbo frets, neck-through, Floyd Rose. And the necks are awesome. The action has never wavered on mine, they stay in tune like no other. Haven't had to do any Truss-rod adjustments yet.

For what you can get them for, it's worth gutting and putting good pots and switches, and custom pick-ups in them. Once you do you'll love having one. I have a 1992 Strat Plus deluxe and a 1984- '57 RI, but these Stagemasters are my favorites to play. I'm not going to be happy until I have at least 4 of them. I want 2 in standard, and 2 in drop D. Then I'll be content.

Why destroy a guitar that is just fine as it is? Get a different guitar. You can morph a Fender into something that does what you want. But you'd probably be happier with something else. Try Ibanez. They make a lot of guitars that do what you want right out of the box.

HUH? Yngwie is one of the defining neoclassical shredders of the era, and he used a strat with single coils. I shred on my standard all the time and love it, but I don't think it's great for thrash metal type rythm chugging. But as good or better than anything for the leads/shredding. When I want big fat chugging rhythm sounds, I grab my ESP or modded Ventura

The HM Strats were fantastic for shredding (I still wish I hadn't sold mine).
Squier Stagemasters are really nice guitars if you don't mind the Squier name.
Ibanez makes a whole slew of shredder Strat style guitars at pretty reasonable prices

Yngwie does not use single-coils. He uses stacked humbuckers like I do. He uses the YJM and the HS-3. I use the Area 67 and the Virtual Vintage 54 Pro. They all are great pickups and dead quiet. They give you a thicker sound than a single-coil but not as thick and muddy as a full size humbucker.

Try some.

As FIRSTSTRAT has stated who is more shred than YNGWIE. And all he plays is strats. Just change your pickups to get the boost you want and keep the feel you like .SIMPLE

Most have a very strat feel, humbuckers and a 24 fret neck

This is the Korean version. The US Custom Shop is nicer, but of course, just a "bit" more. I think the CS stopped making those though. Hot guitars...

+1000 I have the YJM signature strat and love it. Has the HS-3 in it and 357mag is right.
