If you heard this without knowing what it was played through, do you think you would have known that it wasn't an amp?

Here's a little indulgence vid I made. I normally play through a Hot Rod Deluxe but I thought I'd give this a go. I liked the result more than I thought I would.

I wouldnt of known there was no amp involved. Its a high quality recording and has had some outboard eq'ing. You can hear that in the quality of the recording. I would never of guessed there was no amp involved though.
Does that make sense? It sounds like a recorded and well mixed amp to me. What i'd normally associate with air pressure gets lost on a mixdown. Its only really noticable when the speakers in the room with you.

So what program did you use? Enquiring minds need to know. Ive been looking at guitar rig lately.

Well done BTW great playing.

I used a Digitech RP150 straight to my audio interface (Tascam US122L). The settings are in the description on youtube. There's actually no EQ'ing other than in the Digitech itself. I was surprised that more EQ wasn't needed. Especially since I just plugged in a laid down the track like it was. The backing track was already well EQ'ed.

I couldn't get Guitar Rig to work on my PC but I have a friend that uses it with great results.

I'll usually record my guitar parts with my amp and stompboxes mic'd close up with an SM57 just off center to cut down on piercing highs.

P.S. Thanks

Also, the software is Adobe Audition 1.5

No outboard polishing. Man you missed your calling you should be a sound engineer (ours takes 20% decided tonight).

Great guns to ya mate. thats a classy bit of work that really goes to show that all these effects patches that sound horrible through amps work in the right situation.

Well done that man.

I agree with niki in the fact that this sounds like a nice amp with outboard eq'ing. But to hear that it is a simple EQ'ed Digitech into Tascam with Adobe Audition, I have to once again agree with the ninja and say that you have both a nice touch not only with the sound engineering but also with your play. Overall very, very nice. Well done indeed. Infact I would like to here more of this type of thing from you.

I actually think that sounded better than allot of amp recordings on youtube. I use my Line 6 Toneport for my recorded guitar sounds, it sounds better than my amp does because to record my amp I have to use a cheapo mic.

Nice playing too. :D

Thanks everyone. I agree that these kinds of pedals can be kind of nasty through an amp. I never use mine live. Even though it has any effect you could want and is a very powerful sound tool, it tends to be cold and sharp through an amp no matter how much I EQ it. For some reason it records direct beautifully! However, when I want a blazing guitar sound, nothing beats my amp turned up with a good mic placement. I`ll make some comparison videos that A/B direct vs. amped.

FRETSCAPE, without telling someone you would convince 98% of the population that was not an amp,I guess you would have to be some super human producer to know.Great job and really nice playing.

I'm thinking about getting one of these for home use. How big is it? None of the stuff I've found online shows the actual dimensions anywhere. I play a lot at home in the same room where my wife watches TV so it can be an issue. I thought if I had something like this I could hook it into my computer and play along with Youtube videos and listen through headphones. Do you think this will do what I want?

I have used Digitech boards with simulations for about ten years, and I use solid-state amps. I love them. I have been looking foe a digital interface and that Tascam must be good; I think the size and the price are perfect for what I want to do on my Mac & Garage Band.

Thanks for opening my eyes on recording analog-to-digital. But I've long known that the Digitech products are excellent for playing out live and now for the home studio. I have a GNX3 pedalboard.
