I used to break a lot of cheapo rubbish picks when i was playing punk. I'd get around 4 songs out of one. We had hundreds of em with the band name on, bloody ripoff. Thats why i went onto brass. It must of been down to the plastic because the brass pick has never broken a string.

Playing rhythm on an acoustic guitar with a .50 plastic (not tortex or similar) pick will result in many broken picks. I've never broken a tortex one though. I should try...
