How come the Robin Trower Strat is not listed on the website? And last time I searched most places don't even carry it. Why?

I turned it up listed under the Custom Shop part. But there are only a few places that carry it. Why $3000? Corporate Greed?

It doesn't cost Fender that much to build it. And it's not better quality than say an American Vintage 62 which costs $1100 less.

So you dont pay a daily rate for a luthier of note (that includes all customshop employees not just the big names) to make that guitar.

$3000 for a largely handbuilt instrument that utilizes the best woods fender can get seems a bit of a bargain to me.

its funny these signature strats and others are nothing more
than strats from the 70's. no speacial woods were used none of
these extra bells and whistles were used like they are today and yet
fender jacks the prices up $3000 for a strat that cost Trower and knophler
$450 back in the 70's heres another reason why my highway ones are important they are the closes to a real 70's strat.
back in the early 70's my dad only paid $400 my original
1968 strat.

Alwaysstrat.
Signature guitars are not customshop they are production line, yes even the much lauded EJ sgnature is just another production line guitar. You will get good and bad with it, as we saw a couple o months ago. Just the same as you will any production line guitar from any manufacturer anywhere in the world.
Artist series and Tribute guitars are customshop though. They are subject to constant scrutiny by the person building it. Those guys dont get the job they have if they let a bad one slip through every now and again. Thats why PRS and Hamer have such good reputations. Their best guitars or the guitars that earned them their reputation are the work of one or two builders. When they mess up theres no one else to put the blame on.

Good point. I don't believe for a second that a Trower Signature Strat has way better materials then say an American Vintage 62 or an Eric Johnson Strat. Even if the wood that is used is better than an average American Strat it's highly dubious whether anyone without the ears of Superman would be able to hear it.

Simply should not cost that much. Guitars are already overpriced and it's getting worse and worse all the time.

Cant you accept that a guitar is more than the material used? Labour cost money. The higher the skill level the more it costs.

I don't think Artist Series are classified as Custom Shop. They are Artist Signature models. They are clearly listed on the website.

Yes your right with that. Customshop endorsement guitars are now called custom artist. Production line signature series has gone and been replaced by artist series.

thanks mag most of the signature and customshop strats
are loaded with nothing but useless parts.
not even close to what a real 70's strat was.
