So what do you think? I'm pretty I could get an even trade for the Jackson and possibly have a little left over. Am I being delusional for thinking such a thing?? Thanks.

Niki,
Thanks for the reply. However, do you think such a trade would be a loss as far as value? You know, the American Standard Strat is what it is (I paid $1079 for the Sienna Sunburst Ash body), and the Jackson Dinky is made in Japan ($600 but on blowout at GC for $299).

What exactly are you asking?

You're trading your dinky ($300) for an American Strat..and you're asking if it's an even trade? What?

I think you might be able to find someone. The DK2M is listed new at $799-899 and the '05 American Strat was $999-1099 new in 2005. I don't know what the Jackson would go used, but an '05 American Strat usually goes anywhere from $550-$850 depending on condition and quality.

Yes it is a loss. The figures tell you that. What you have to decide is 'am i going to love that dinky $1079 worth. Because effectively thats what you will have paid for it.
Myself i wouldnt trade down in value. You may find it worthwhile to wait, keep your strat nice and keep a lookout for a DK1 in a shop that will part ex.
I think i would keep the strat and look to save for a DK series jackson. If like me you love that metal stuff then you may like me find your tastes shifting as you reach 35. Dont get me wrong i still get the dink out and chug away every now and again. Just not like when i was 25.

There's lower end Dinky's, but the one he has is mid-range and is priced $799-$899....just like there is American Strats and lower end Standard Strats(MIM).

This is truth. I still play my 'metal' guitars from time to time too. The thing is they are only good for metal though. I think you should be able to find a dinky for a reasonable price, i wouldn't trade a strat for one. unless someone really famous dies with one in his hands these types of guitars won't hold value the same way as a strat.

keep the strat,
layaway the dinky....
otherwise, your losing alo more.
think about it, you purchased the am strat 1079. now there worth around 1400 dollars because its an ash. the dinky is at closeout 299.
they will offer you more less 650 for it. so you will lose about 600-700 dollars of apraisal value. more less.

I think there are two ways of looking at it.
from a business aspect, that would be a bad trade.
from a musician's aspect, it depend on what you like.

I've played the new dk2m at gc and sa and They kick a**. I'd like to eventually buy one plus I'm sure you've noticed they are a bargain. If you like to shred, you should definitely consider the dk2m.

Most people are going to tell you to keep the american strats simply because they're MIA strat purists. I have two older MIJ strats and sold all my MIA strats. To me the mij's just felt better and that' what really matters.

WARNING: I was at the Hollywood GC yesterday and saw a dk2m going to 299.00 in red and one right next to it in black going for 399.00. At first I couldn't figure out why the red one was so much cheaper. When I inspected the red one closer I found the head had a crack on it and had been glued back on.

A common problem with angled back headstocks. Most get broken and repaired before they leave the factory. The good news is that when repaired properly the glued repair is stronger than the original state.
