JM can really play. Take a look at Where the Light Is. Incredible DVD. It's broken up into 3 parts: An acoustic set; a trio set; and a full band set. I'd love to have the $$ for the John Mayer CS but maybe I'll try the production model when it comes out.

You don't necessarily have to love his music (or him for that matter) to appreciate his playing. For instance, I don't particularly care for SRV (I know that's probably blasphemy here ) but man could he play the guitar.

I couldnt agree with you more. Just because you dont like someones music doesnt mean they dont deserve the achievements they have reached in their life. He is a regular musician like most of us on here who was lucky enough to catch a break. He is living a dream that most of us here would love to live.

Steve is completely right. if you think about it, he is almost at Clapton's level, at the age of 30

kind of a scary thought...

And Joe Bonamassa was over Mayer's level at the age of 16!

Jope Bonamassa is no where near Mayer's level. I've seen him twice now, the open tunings are cool and his skill with a slide is unquestionable but for the most part it is just a bunch of super fast Van Halen style trick guitar playing with no real soul behind it. Mayer is who he is now because he is one of the few players out there that can bend a note and make you feel something as opposed to making you go 'wow, he must have spent a lot of time practicing that'.

Well each to his own I guess, I like Mayer wery much but if they were playing the same day I would go to see Joe, simply becouse I like him and his music better.

Oh and if you can't feel this I guess you will never get into Bonamassa:

Don't get me wrong, he's an extremely talented guy- just too technical for me. While this piece did have a lot of feel in it it there were just one too many arpeggios for me. He sounds way better on a Les Paul than when I saw him playing a Strat.

On the other hand Joe's voice wins hands down.

When will we find out what kind of pup's are in this particular guitar? You don't think the pricing for the factory run will be the same as his other sig?

we will not know until the end of '09. no, the NOS will be around the same price as the regular sig, which is 2020.00 + tax.

there is no doubt that joe is an incredible player. but his songs are really old school and are just really heavy well basically "$@!& rock", i used to really like joe but mayer smoothness. listen to who did you think i was, where he takes a very potentially clunky riff and just by tone and the lightness of his fingers he manages to play it smoothly and make it incredible, which in my opinion Joe did not manage to do on the ballad of john henry. john's voice is way better than joe's in my opinion

No way. They should tape John's mouth shut.

Greetings Fender Lovers
This is my first post to the Fender Forum and I hope it won't be too controversial. I hate these fake beat up guitars. Ok I said it, I have been playing since I was a kid and I'm all grown up now. I have a pretty cool guitar collection consisting of 36 pieces right now, 6 of them are American Strats, Deluxe & Standard, and a pair of American Deluxe Tele's. They are all pristine and I love them all. The American Deluxe Strat is always my go to guitar, and I wipe them down thoroughly after every use. To take a beautifully crafted instrument and intentionally crap it up is a crime that should send you right to guitar prison. Now don't misunderstand me, If John Mayer, Yngwie, Joe Strummer, etc wrecked their own guitars from years of use, and I could have that one...great, awesome, killer, but to fake beat one up and pretend that its like the one that the artist plays is sacrilegious. Thank you guy's for continuing to build beautiful quality instruments that inspire me to clean, wax, and treat them like the pieces of art that they are.
PS If you want to do something cool keep making "Crash" Strats

Two totally different styles and equipment as far as I'm concerned.

Lets talk about more interesting things like when is Bonamassa going to be fully bald, at that time will he look like Sach? Can he pull in more chicks than Mayer?

While I don't hate them. I'm not a fan. I have enough beat-up guitars without buying one like it. But if your collecting them then its a good reason to get one.
The other reason is to hit the same tone or to perform say a Mayer song and pull out something as close to it as your going to get.
