Is there a release date for this yet? Or prices for the CS and Non-CS?

John met with Mike Eldred and Mr. John Cruz today and they presented him with the offical prototype.

What are we looking at here? One is a Custom Shop relic made for John Mayer and the other is a Road Worn that Fender has made to look like it?

Okay. Thanks.

So you wont buy the guitar becouse it has Mayers name on it?
but you would buy the Clapton or Gilmour becouse you like those players?

Don't buy the name, buy the guitar that you think is best......

I'm thinking in the way that.. I'd much rather have a guitar that is tribute to a more accomplished artist. Of course if I played them then I would let that decide, I just mean if I had to choose right now, I'd rather have a clapton or gilmour.

I dont know, why doesnt Fender make a signature David Gilmour Tele instead? That tele's much more beaten up and much more important than John Mayer's guitars.

Mayer's guitar as far as I'm concerned is an SRV stratocaster yes. He just probably sprayed the sunburst to a black, or something of that kind. Besides, his guitar is a custom shop replica. So the strat that replicates HIS guitar, is a replica of another replica that indirectly replicates the SRV strat.

I hope I made that sentence understandable.

But come on, that guitar must be the exact same as john's one, or probably better. But... there are better artists to have their guitars sig'd.

Besides, if I wanted a strat like mayer's, I would just buy an SRV signature and a white pickguard. Then I'd paint the sunburst black.

What point?

Idk it just seems to be getting to the point that fender isnt trying anymore.
honestly i dont know why i said you missed the point, you are spot on minus the spraying an SRV strat, so my bad magician, i do apologize.

but can you guys not agree? Fender seems to be doing nothing now but relics and artist sigs. come on, CAN WE HAVE A NEW GUITAR PLEASE?

i enjoy the relic look, i think its fun, but that needs to be one section of fender. we need a whole other section trying new body styles, bringing back old body styles (cough* origional starcaster*cough) etc.

as much as im not a huge fan of some of gibsons new stuff AT LEAST THEY'RE TRYING!

is it going to take fender realizing that everybody that wants a relic HAS ONE! lets see some new stuff, PLEASE!

am i wrong here?

No you're not wrong.

Yeah you're probably right. I would buy an SRV strat but not spray it black. I prefer the sunburst and black guard.

If I want a relic, I'll just go play my blue squier.

Dunno, Mayer just doesn't have enough under his belt for me to consider it a worthy purchase. I mean, listen to Room for squares. Doesn't scream GUITAR HERO.

IMO

If it wasn't for said lawsuit, Fender should have released a custom shop version of the Monterey Strat that isn't like £24k. That would sell like wildfire because who doesn't love that guitar.

Looks like someone hasn't watched "Where the Light Is" yet..

I agree you gotta watch this DVD and if your still not convinced that he can play then you are blinded too much by his Pop music that gave him his fame. In interviews he has said several times that he has always wanted to play blues based music but he happened to get signed when he was a solo acoustic act. The guy went from touring small venues and bars with just him and a bass player to now bringing Blues based music into the mainstream. His music is unlike anything else out there right now. He has acomplished a lot for just barely entering his 30s.[/quote]

Steve is completely right. if you think about it, he is almost at Clapton's level, at the age of 30

just imagine in 30 years how good he will be...

kind of a scary thought...

And Joe Bonamassa was over Mayer's level at the age of 16!

just imagine in 30 years how good he will be!

What level do you think Clapton is now compared to when he was 30?

He was turning 20 when people where writing "Clapton is god"

Every famous Musician and even celebrity has their hard core followers that will call them "A God" or even just call them "God" John Mayer is it for the new generation. There have always have been and always will be that dont respect or appreciate Musicians for the way they play or how they got to where they are. Biggest thing to get out of this is If you dont like the guitar dont buy it. If you think its a great guitar but wont get it because it has JMs name on it then thats your loss on a great Fender guitar. On the other hand Fender has plenty of Strats out there with all different sounds and colors to match your taste and what you like to play.

JM can really play. Take a look at Where the Light Is. Incredible DVD. It's broken up into 3 parts: An acoustic set; a trio set; and a full band set. I'd love to have the $$ for the John Mayer CS but maybe I'll try the production model when it comes out.

You don't necessarily have to love his music (or him for that matter) to appreciate his playing. For instance, I don't particularly care for SRV (I know that's probably blasphemy here ) but man could he play the guitar.
