Thing is that Leo did not patent every thing and seaches from 1975 back are done more by date being applied more time consuming to find but can still be done fairly easy. Since 1985 Fender musical has patented 56 items.

Notice the trem patent clearly shows the trem in float possition.

Conclusive proof that their designed to float and that flat setting is just wrong.
(only kidding, ive a strat with the trem set flat).

It's never to late to float that flat trem!

Just from the pictures you could tell it is the exact same guitar that Leo photographed all those years ago... this is all extremely cool. That glued woodblock is a piece of history. Professional musician/ collectors can't hold a candle to that baby.

It must be a bitter-sweet burden to own.

The battery wires get tangled up in the springs after a bit of use.

That's movement in the direction I was looking for, 53 Strat. But I still need more.

Once again, I want to reiterate that Im not calling you a liar or trying to discredit you or anything "bad". But Im a naturally jaded and skeptical guy who beleives people are inherently evil and not trustworthy. :( Plus, I can only imagine how one would validate that yours is, irrefutably, a 1953 Strat body. Mayube there is really no way to confirm it. But paraphrasing a book doesnt make yours authentic, to me anyway.

Let me play devils advocate and I hope you can destroy my objections. for our discussion, I'll focus on the body, the bridge and trem as they are the only pieces you say are 1953.

Regarding the body....there are several guys in this forum that have the skills to make a body just like yours. Niki, for one, has demonstrated some pretty compelling woodworking skills. If there is a book on the subject, there is probably design details somewhere. I would trust that Niki could manufacture a body that looks just like yours, including a fine relic-job and other patina. We could have this exact same debate about the validity of his. Maybe there is some Fender employee, luthier guru or Antique Roadshow guitar master who can authenticate a body this way. I suspect that's what it takes, actually....a series of "professional opinions" from reputable and noted experts. Until you tell me you have that, its just another 3 piece body.

Now the bridge and trem may be easier to authenticate and clearly the book would be a useful tool in this case. Casting those bits and pieces in correct demension is not something a common fraudster would or likely could do, if for no other reason than the cost. Even looking at the pictures from the book, I can more easily believe your claim about those pieces.

I would really enjoy learning more about this. Id love to know you actually have what you say, just because it would be cool! But I'd also enjoy learning how these mysteries are solved.

Big Jay, and I assume you are a Big Jay because you say you are. I could try to convince you but you would be better served to get a copy of Richards book and read the Strat chapter and look closly at the pictures to be further assured that what I am saying is in fact true. I assure you I will not slip into the Amazon warehouse and photoshop pages 127 and 132 of every book just in case you buy that one. In addition to the Strat info the whole book is a great source of info and a good read to boot.
After you read the book then ask me anything to fill in the holes.

I have a rider now on my homeowners insurance untill June when I go to New York for a formal evualation by Kerry Keane at Christys and then I will insure it for whatever value they place on it.

Hi TheMagician: you mean you haven't heard about my famous Strat?

I'm offended.

(Joke.)

Cheers - C

Sorry to randomly post this, but this is the only way I could think of getting hold of Ceri.

Ceri, can you email me at ejmardell@aol.com, I have a proposition for you! Ed

You know, the vintage strats in Brazil are almost fully made out of knockoffs.

I have personally never seen an original fender strat that wasnt 3 bolt and was made before 76 or so.

I really hope to own some vintage strats one day. Just so that I could tell the difference between a pre-cbs to a cbs strat.

To view Gov. Patent images you must have;

You must use a browser plug-in -- similar to those required to access Adobe® PDF files, RealPlayer®, or Macromedia Flash® files -- on your workstation in order to view these files directly. An alternative method is to use third-party software or services to view these images either directly or after conversion to another format, such as Adobe® PDF
