Where can I find more guys like you? Exactly what I was thinking, but didnt know how to word it out. Thanks, doc.

Well, though I appreciate the kudos, I would answer your question by stating that you already have.

In the next, having a stepson and grandchildren residing in Seattle, I try to make my pilgrimage to EMP as often as I can. The Hendrix Exhibit is quite interesting and there is an entire corner devoted to the Northwest's contribution to rock music which has something for every generation. EC's "Brownie" now last sat in a glass case alongside others of its ilk, in a large semicircular viewing room where videos of our heroes are displayed.

The first time I saw it, it was in a display along with its road case, and a tastefully arranged selection of memorabilia related to Derek and The Dominoes and 'Layla'. I had been told once, on noting its absence, that Paul Allen jealously guards access to it, but I suppose that's mellowed a bit.

I definitely see Seattle as the place for that guitar.

It would be great if that Hendrix Black Beauty Strat (his favorite at the time of his death) made it to the EMP in Seattle.

I have not heard of it being sold at auction. Of course, Uli could have sold it, as that article is very old (as mentioned in a previous post). We'd have to ask the retailers in that market (like Maverick or Gruhn) if they know who currently owns it. I cannot imagine Uli selling it, but it was a shock that Gary Moore sold the Peter Green Sunburst. Sometimes those guys need the money!

It was that Hendrix guitar that inspired me to buy my own "Blackie" 30-some years ago:

I talked with the curator at EMP {i have forgotten his name} a few months ago and he said the musuem was not making any new additions to the collection no matter how important the piece was.

It would be great if at LEAST black beauty made it into a limited run production. I mean, there's only one hendrix replica/clone strat in the world for fans to buy.

And it's price must've catapulted by now (I'm talking about the Woodstock Clone)

And orville, lovely strat man. Still own it? What year?

EDIT:

Interesting fact, the guitar wasnt heard of being sold. But the strap that accompanied the guitar was sold on an auction, now Gilmour owns the purple suede strap.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I would not keep it a secret. Also, I would play any strat I got ahold of. Just because the famous owner died, or quit playing, or moved on to other guitars, dosen't mean that the instrument itself should die, IMO.

Perhaps we are dealing with a conundrum similar to Orville's infamous "serial number". Que significa '53 Strat' :?: :?

Miami Mike posted a thread in the tele section about the prototype tele from 48. Bet that guitar is a dog to play. Still i'd shell out a couple o quid on it. I'd also tell people that i trust that i own it. I'm pretty paranoid about where i live and my gear. If i'm going out for more than 4-5 hours the guitars are locked in the cellar.

Sadly/happily no gun law in the uk.

I remember when I went to my friends house by bus with my squier strat. He was going to fix some things on the tuners and put some strings on it for free.

Almost a month without any money to go to his house and pick it up, and he wasnt willing to go crosstown on a motorcycle with a stratocaster behind his back. Then suddenly the strat shows up at my grandma's on a hard shell case.

I cried and promised it would never be seen without me again.

But honestly. If I owned Brownie, Blackie, Black Beauty or the White One, I would sure as hell play the instrument extremely often. Probably 2 hours a day or so.

If I owned them I would play them on shows and such. But I would never say that those guitars were actually the real deal... like, if someone asked me if I owned brownie I would say: "Nah, it's just a 56 stratocaster."

I know I play my squier every single day though. About 6 hours per week and over 8 on weekend jams.
