Thanks straycat...did this last night...just as you and a few others here described.

The fret board cleaned up beautifully...back to a nice darker shade. Took me a a little longer with the strings though. Trying to get the strings on the tuning peg to loop over and then under to lock the string into place took some practice...but I got is...3 wraps of string on each peg. Tuned it and am back in business.

I'm guessing I'll be tuning a few more times as the strings stretch a little over the next few sessions.
