Around three or four years ago, I was in Guitar Center and saw a very interesting Strat. My memory of it is hazy, but here's what I recall...

-I think the GC guy said these were limited, and a special that GC was doing with Fender, but I could be wrong about that. I just can't remember - was drinking a lot back then.

-The Strat itself was bright yellow, black pickguard, HSS configuration and it had very cool knurled knobs on it.

-I think it was also available in red and black.

-It MIGHT have been a "hot rod" but the price was under $700 - I seem to remember that because I was considering buying it - if it had been real expensive I wouldn't have. I think the current Hot Rods are $1200+, right?

I'd be interested in hunting down this guitar, but I don't know what the model designation was or what edition it was or anything like that. I'm planning on emailing this to Fender as well, but I figured I'd try here first.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Am I nuts?

It was an MIM special edition and I believe it was 2003... You are correct about the colors. The graffitti yellow had a black figured pick guard with black pup covers and chrome knurled volume and tone knobs. They pop up on ebay occasionally. I've seen them sell around $300-500 US. Keep your eye on ebay because if one gets on and gets bids another one will be not long behind it. The last one I saw was around the holidays last year on ebay.
