My MIM owns every guitar i've ever played, serious. Even though its now mainly MIE.
I even reckon EC should ditch all them 'only for ec master built guitars' and give me £300 for mine.

Even though i wouldn't sell it for 3k. Age + playtime make for a highly personal instrument. I bet no one else would give me 300 for it.

Taste is acquired over time

As many of us know.

I wonder if the Sydney Entertainment Centre is modelled after the interior scheme of the Royal Albert Hall... if so, the last tickets sold are usually "rear obstructed view" which turns out to mean that you're seated beside and just behind the stage -- the perfect vantage for guitarists wanting to study their inspiration up close! That's where I was when I saw Clapton stroll on stage with his sonic blue strat earlier this year. Funnily enough, I had also thought I was going to miss out on that particular show until Mrs mondo produced a ticket.

Hey to all, just thought I'd chime in on this, MIM strats are nice, I've touched, felt, played them, and they are real nice, MIA strats are nice too, I've touched, felt, and played them too, I know that MIM strats are less expensive than the MIA models, and thats okay too, this gives the new player a chance to own a genuine Fender product without a whole lot of out-of-pocket, It also gives the the players who want to add to their collection without paying alot, cheers to the MIM's!

Well, not to burst anyone's bubble, but EC's MIM Strat is not really MIM any more. After he got it as a gift, it was sent to the Fender Custom Shop where it received a CS Clapton V-neck and all new electronics and pick-ups. The only original part of the guitar left is the body. Maybe the trem too, I'm not sure if it was replaced or left in the guitar.

Well, I cant leave this alone without some sort of closure. I feel a little foolish after it all. But I'd like to say, Ceri, that I didnt intend to suggest you a liar or anything dishonorable. It seems pretty nutty, Im sure.

I hadnt put more than two seconds into the idea. But its really not such an outlandish idea, considering we are all hanging around on the Fender site. It might not surprise anyone to hear that Gilmore or Claptons tech might be hanging around. Taken literally, your comment actually means you were on stage with Clapton. I interpreted it literally and it peaked my curiosity enough to ask. From my perspective, you could fit the hypothesis and I'd take that as a compliment if I were you. Of course, people who frequent a stage with Clapton might prefer their privacy and, assuming that, I supposed you actually were trying to cover up. Silly, of course I understand. But not a baseless misinterpretation. Of course, it was certainly confusing for you and I understand how you might get defensive or embarrassed.

Pretty comical I admit. Anyway, please forgive my misunderstanding. Truly didnt mean to insult you. thanks.

Hi Big Jay

This must be boring everyone's pants off, so do let's leave it behind after this. We've all seen these kinds of dust ups happen from time to time, but I've never myself been involved in one before - not pleasant; I don't recommend the experience!

The online world obviously lends itself to a degree of "creative fiction", but I must say, as far as I can detect there is blessedly little of it going on in this place. Far as I can possibly tell almost everyone here is perfectly honest about who and what they are. Most refreshing.

Still, I'd understand a certain quiet scepticism if I were claiming to be a fabulous player, or a wonderful and successful guitar builder, or rubbing shoulders with glamorous people. But to be called out on it for claiming to be the exact opposite of all those things - that's quite startling! Far as the YouTube video is concerned, it occurs to me hours later that as it happens I actually can prove quite easily that it was made by me. Would seem like 12 year olds in the school yard to bother to do so, but if anyone wants, ask and ye shall receive.

Big Jay, you said earlier you were trying to join the dots. But in this instance there just aren't any dots to join. You're fond of theories: Ockham's Razor is a handy one. Sometimes things are actually just as they seem. There's no deception going on here.

I have a feeling you're looking for hidden identities: for example, I believe you've said once or twice that you think some users here are really Fender employees on the sly. Personally I doubt it, but like all conspiracy theories it can't be conclusively disproved.

But if it's at the back of your mind I'll say outright, I'm not a Fender stooge. My day job has nothing to do with what we do on the Forum and I'd be delighted to keep the two things seperate. However, in my own field I have had a very small (very small!) level of success: were you to go looking you'd quite easily find me out there. Perhaps knowing the rest of who Ceri is would dispell your doubts about who you're talking to here. If so, you have the skills for that research.

Enough? Big hugs, tearful slaps on the back: make up and move on.

Praise be!

Cheers - C

WOW I have been on this forum for a month and a half and this is the first sighns of immature behaviour I have seen. Now I pop up in a lot of forums and this is my favorite.I like a good disagreement but not over bullshit. Most of the players on here know there stuff and are insightful but come on guys really.Hey I am not going to knock anyone for what they play as I stated in a few post I own 3 MIJ teles not because I could not afford U,S models I felt they were better made guitars in the 80s.I buy what I like and try to buy the best.Personaly I dont own a mim Fender and probably never will (as I have checked them out and think the U.S is the better made guitar right now)but I am not going to knock someone if that was in there budget or if they personaly prefer them over U,S models. There was a guy named Eddie and he made a guitar with about $180 in parts from seconds and painted it funny and I bet a few guys with there custom axes snickered at him till he plugged in and planted them.

Well this one's really gone far afield now hasn't it.

Without a doubt you all recognize that the centerpieces of his life now are the givers of that gift, and the thoughts which accompanied it.

The rest is simply mindless blather at this point.

Do you think it might have been the dedication and the fact all his girls signed it?

Do not think that this microcosm of world society is different than that at large. Run down the 'Blocked Trem' thread for another sample of what we can get into at times.

anyone who realy plays or knows anything about
a fender strat know that the MIM stratocasters that
were made from 2006 to present are qaulity craftmanship
period end of story, the woods that are used are quality woods
same woods used on most MIA'S i have a 2006 MIM STD 3 piece
alder body. maple neck with jumbo frets - heavier bridge block
and a few other changes that were made already back in
2006. all the major changes on the MIM STD and other MIM
models were done in 2006. i would match the quality of the
woods used, and the craftmanship of the MIM'S to most MIA'S
ANY DAY. i love my MIA'S BUT! i also know the MIM'S are
qauilty strats for the pro and none pro guitarist.

Alwaysstrat. The singer guitarist in my band plays amongst others a 96MIM. Largely considered a golden year for mexico strats. The modern appointments are an improvement on what was already a good instrument. Myself i gig a 95MIM and a baja tele. Both are great workhorses.
You can replace em easily enough should anything happen to them. With a bit of care and attention any of the flaws that they can sometimes suffer are easily rectified. Makes MIMs a great gigging choice for the average Joe.

Back on point......what artist is best known for the finish/scratchplate combination on EC's gift :?: Perhaps that's what unconsciously caught his eye. 8)

Now THERE's an interesting addition to the substance of the original posting. How did you come to know this. :?:
