Firstrat: these are two very sensible remarks! :D

I presume the "houseboat" thing refers to my Forum T-shirt pic of me on one side of the river and Dave Gilmour's houseboat/recording studio on the other:
Image

Simply can't imagine what there is to doubt in that. There's me, there's the T-shirt, there's Gilmour's boat. That's all check-out-able - if anyone sees any possible reason to.

Now if I'd somewhere claimed to have been inside the boat, jamming with Dave - well I'd see why someone might think it unlikely...

Hey Trauma: I think somewhere on either the T-shirt thread or Blues Bondsman's original thread where he suggested the T-shirt in the first place someone had the idea of putting the logo on a guitar as well.

I believe everyone thought it an excellent idea - it would sure be the ultimate prize in a competition, wouldn't it?

Somewhere I also suggested a Forum kilt. There were fewer takers on that one...

If you look back at the forum t-shirt thread you'll see pictures of Ceri and his guitar in several famous places. One being across the river from DG's houseboat/recording studio. I think that's where you are getting some of the comments in different threads concerning him. Ceri is exactly what he says he is. I hope that helps clear things up.

Trauma i think the whole argument was crossed wires You and Fhop were both saying its a valid fender instrument. You seeking to prove it Fhop saying theres no need to prove it, weve all known it for years. Yes your blue guitar is drop dead gorgeous.

Myself despite owning a customshop and 2 american made strats my mexican guitars are my mainstay for live work, of which 'Iv'a done'a plenty'. If anything is going to break, let you down, cause embarassment its when your infront of a load of people. Proof to me atleast that MIM's are no less valid an instrument than a customshop. Not saying their as good or better but equally as much a fender, YES. I'd also include squire in that equation too. Perfectly good saturday night bashers. My main gripe with the whole MIM v MIA is snobby MIA owners that cant give credit where credit is due. I suspect that is the case with most forum users. There are issues with mexican guitars that i wont go into here. Its no way the end of the world though and they can be easily sorted. I've been playing since moses was a lad (23 years ago) and still find great use out of my mexican guitars. That alone leads me to believe EC can enjoy them too. I'm not as good as him but i do ok. You may well find that the old MIM stays with you long into your lifetime.

Now the important question.
Did EC get a case with it? If so i want one too.

Ceri, nobody is calling you a liar. But read your own words. Anyone as smart as you, especialy with your clear mastery of language, can appreciate the opportunity to misinterpret the quote above. I thought you were saying that you were literally on the stage with Clapton.

I also admit that I've wondered who you are for some time. Yours is a very unique personality. Circumstantially, you happen to be one of the most knowledgable people Im aware of regarding Strats. Your interest level and knowledge base on music and strats suggests you may be something more than a guitar hobbiest, potentially a professional. Further, you sometimes write as if you know some, or even several, very recognizable guitar/rock personailities. Further yet, Ive read several comments by others on these boards that state that you spend time with the likes of David Gilmore. I've already gone back to identify the posts and can list one or two with context if you like.

In my business, we call this "a mosaic"...Assembling seemingly unrelated data into a potential hypothesis. Sometimes its correct. Sometimes its not. In this case, my mosaic could suggest you are a professional musician at a level where you play along side Clapton or Gilmore or others on stage. Or, it could also potentially suggest that you are a professional employed by someone like Clapton or Gilmore or others, potentially as a tech. Or you may be employed by Fender and hob-knob with the artists. I dont know and, again, its really none of my business except that we are both here chatting. With your comments today, I hoped my suspicion was correct and could cause you to confirm.

Clearly this is all either rubbish or not. I assume you say rubbish, eh?

Well, in that case, please accept my humble apologies. I wish no offense or harm. Please forgive the intrusion.

OK, let's take it carefully - and then let's both us ladies knock it on the head, as firstrat so wisely said!

First: yes, I absolutely see how I worded that first post badly. I was making a silly joke about Clapton improbably switching to Ibanez and didn't pay scrupulous attention to my writing. I'm sure it's also clear there was no intention to mislead: Clapton was on stage and I was sitting yards away.

On the other stuff. If you really wanted it would be very easy to read the clues and find out who I am with a minute of thoughtful Googling. Nobody very interesting, I absolutely assure you!

As I have always said, I am nobody in the music business. The closest I've been to anyone famous (other than at gigs) is to have a door shut in my face by Pete Townshend backstage after a Who show in about 1981; and a year or two ago Eric Clapton drove past me in his silver Porsche in the street. The limit of my contact with the stars!

(Actually, I did work in menial jobs backstage in a theater in the mid-'80s and met a lot of famous actors - but I don't think I've ever mentioned that here...)

Hob-nobbing with famous people: on the T-shirt thread I took some photos of famous rock and roll locations where I live and F Hopkins and I have a small running joke that I actually bump into these people and know them. I do not: it's a gag.

I had a very minor amateur playing career in the late '70s - early '80s, first as a drummer and then a guitarist. Very minor! I am not a luthier. I am a guy who spends too long reading books about guitars and tinkering with timber.

Sometimes, when someone posts a question I half know the answer to I go and check it in one of the books before posting a reply. That seems just sensible and there is no intention to pretend otherwise.

I know how utterly pompous this sounds, but I do actually take a silent pride in my honesty. Heck, I don't even post under an assumed name! So if there is anything else that I've said about which there is any doubt whatsoever, I'd be most grateful for the chance to clear it up...

And with that - back to the carnival!

I hate to cause a ruckus among the MIA vs MIM people here but in Claptons new autobiography on page 313 he says...

On the back of the guitar she had written a lovely dedication, and all the girls signed thier name. It's the best present I ever got."

....so now we REALLY know the MIM vs MIA war should be put to rest. Slowhand owns a MIM.......who knew?

so does david gilmour of pink floyd.
i'v read he has 3 MIM'S standards and enjoys playing
them very much.

Oh brilliant!

Well that takes the spotlight off Ceri and Jay, at any rate!

Gosh, how many disputes can we squeeze onto this one thread?

I have no problem with MIM's. I own a MIA, and I don't look down on MIM strats. In fact I like them, but I do not think they are equal quality to each other. Set the two side by side and you can see the difference. But I also think the MIA is not 2X the guitar as the price suggest. Obviously, I could own a MIM or both if I wanted to. I looked at MIM's when I was in the store, and I was aware they were capable guitars. I bought MIA b/c I had the $$ and I really appreciate fine wood working, which I had to sort through several MIA's to find one I thought was acceptable...most MIA's I seen in the store were not perfect either
