I done a topic some time ago about this, but the advice didn't help. (Still appreciated).

Believe it or not, its happening on my custom shop strat.
The thinnest string keeps on slipping off every time I might play a bit hard and wobble the string a bit or whatever. (You know). Its not slipping out of the nut or anything, its just slipping off the fret.

The advice I got last time was to un-screw the next screws a bit, and push the neck left while screwing it back in, which didn't really do alot.

Thanks for any replies - Jimmy

Take it back to the dealer or a qualified guitar tech. Forgive me if I'm wrong but it seems like you don't know a lot about guitar repair, but that's cool. That is the reason for my suggestion and if you keep fooling around with it you could just make it worse. Good luck! :)

Hi Jimmy: top e string slipping off the edge of the neck when soloing, right?

The advice to check the set of the neck was good, because sometimes it can be skewed so that there is a bigger gap between the low E and that edge of the fingerboard than on the high e side.

But if that ain't the case here then I'm afraid it is just down to technique. That is not meant to sound insulting: it is probably something that happens to all of us at times. Certainly an issue I've had.

We just have to learn how to fret the strings so the top e doesn't slip towards the edge - if anything, move it slightly towards the center of the 'board, though not enough to audibly change the pitch. It's tricky, I know. Just something you have to be conscious of and gradually build into your fretting style.

Of course, they could make the neck wider so that there was a bigger gap between the strings and the fingerboard edge. But then it would be less comfortable in the hand. Guitar design is a trade-off of these competing factors.

Another possibility: you could get a new nut cut with the string slots slightly closer together which would therefore bring the outermost strings away from the fingerboard edge a touch - maybe as much as a millimetre. And you can also get Strat bridges with a narrower spacing on the strings at that end: 52 mm instead of 56.

But both of those will bunch the strings closer, which may reduce playability. I'd work hard on your left hand technique first and see how it goes. You are not alone!

Cheers - C

Aside from loosening the neck bolts and repositioning the neck theres nothing you can do. Aside from a new nut and trem repositioning.

Take or send it back. No way you should be having that problem.
