I went to Denmark St in the first place to check out a tech-workshop to do a set-up for me. Graham some-one-or-other, in a basement under a shop at the far end of the street (from Tottenham court Rd) They were recommended by someone from this site (sorry, forgot who).

Er, well actually that recommendation came from me...

Graham, in the dank, dark basement of Music Ground at the top of Denmark Street on the north side. He used to supply long chats and cups of tea with a setup - but when Niki asked I couldn't recall whether biscuits were included...

As for curry: I could recommend various places in Oldham, but our side of the Watford Gap - well, you can do no better than the Dulwich Tandoori in Lordship Lane. (I'm sure you can, but...)

What's your problem with Germans? I don't understand why it's relevant the guitar was sold to someone who was 'German sounding' or what that's got to do with the Fawlty Towers sketch or how you think that it wouldn't be offensive to a German to make that connection. The Basil Fawlty sketch was surely written to parody people's inabiltity to get past those stupid prejudices, especially the stupid British obsession with the 'War' and how marvellous we were to win it so righteously.

What's that doing on the Fender forum?

Err, well none at all actually, just trying to illustrate the story! Re-reading it, perhaps it does seem an unecessary detail, but it certainly was not ment to cause offense.

Tom if peoples ramblings insult you so much perhaps a public forum is the worst place you could find reading material. There's been nothing offensive posted to either German people or people of any other nationality. Myself i was just trying to interject a bit of humour into Adrian's self admitted venting.
What else would you rather have here? 1000 endlessly repetitive mim v usa, what pickups, help my guitar wont work threads?

Variety is the spice of life. If it doesnt suit your palette that's your business.

Opps

Sorry Ceri, I seem to be suffering especially badly form 'foot in mouth' disease today!!

I spoke to Graham on the 'phone a few weeks ago. I found him very helpful and informative. Graham was not there yesterday as he works part time these days apparently; but I met his son, he seemed pretty clued-up too.

I really went up there to find out where it was, just to make things easier if I lug my strat all the way into town.

I must admit, I'm still in two minds whether to get Graham and his team to do the light fret level and set-up; or entrust it to Charlie Chandler and his amazing Plek machine? What would you do?

Wir sollten wieder aus der Asche steigen und verkunden fur die dieser Krieg sprechen.

We should once again rise from the ashes and proclaim war on this talk.

Haha: honestly not an issue. :D No foot-in-mouth - I just thought it was quite funny.

Gosh, that's quite a dilemma. I've chatted with the young guy (didn't know he was Graham's son) and found him very nice - he gave me a tiny screw which I was having silly trouble matching. (No cup of tea, though.) But I have no experience of his work, so I can't say for or against.

I guess if I could run to it I'd go with Charlie and the Plek - but that's just out of sheer curiosity to find out first hand what that machine delivers. Consistently glowing reports, but again I have no personal experience to go on. Still, I've a feeling it would be the Rolls-Royce option if you can do it.

Gotta say though: compared to all the folks we get on here who can't find a decent tech, at least your problem is choosing between two very good ones!

Please remember to tell us about it if you go with the Plek. Lots of people interested to hear more about that...

Cheers - C

If there were a Plek option close to me I'd have it done to my guitars! 8)

Your a strat player for god sake, where are your balls?
I would have grabbed out of his hand when he went for it, and told him that he could play it when I was finished.

Ah, the rather uncommon "Strat that got away" story. It just wasn't meant to be man. You'll find that one special guitar that knocks your socks off one day. The one you saw was not it.

I'm more pissed that they practically knocked you down to get to it. I know I hate being profiled and ignored when I walk into a store.

[quote="adriandavidb"]I was in a shop in Denmark St in London yesterday. As I was standing looking at the strats, the propriator put a white/maple USA star on the wall, second hand but pristine. It looked VERY well set-up. Just as I was about to ask to have a closer look and maybe a play. One of the shop assistants, who was taliking to a German sounding potential customer, suggested to him that he take a look! They both vertually pushed me out of the way to get it down.

He played it, the nicest sounding strat I've heard, ever! I thought I'll wait till it puts it back and then I'll try it, and more than likely, buy it!

Unfortuanely I didn't get the chance. The inconsiderate s*d bought it.

Gutted, I certainly WAS![/quote

Look at it this way.....some bloke was likely turned inside out because he missed his sailing in the 'Titanic'.

Ah don't worry about him. Das ist ein wunder Punkt beit ihm.

I'm of kraut descent with family on both sides of that silly little war. I took no offense at the mention. You know stereotypes exist for a reason. They not all encompasing but come about for a reason. Us krauts tend to be stubbord little #$%^ that try taking what we want without regards to others feelings at times  Very gruff and unpersonable to strangers as well. younger generations are getting better but I've got some older extented family that you, I and the average guy on the street would just want to smack up along side the head.

So ist das leben! Bis dann!

Mr Jinx, thanks for your thoughts: I agree pretty much with what you say, though I will never be able to condone silly national stereotyping, of any nationality (or race for that matter). I make no apology to nikininja for criticising the knee-jerk link from a mention of a German-sounding person to a Hitler caricature in one easy move. That is offensive.

But you're right, there are some difficult older Germans that I know. Maybe we can understand the reasons for that. And I also have many cool friends there now. I just don't think generalising is all that healthy.

Na ja, das reicht jetzt, oder? Ich wünsche dir ein schönes Wochenende und gutes Spielen! (Falls wir vergessen warum wir hier sind!)
