Hello and thanks in advance for all your wisdom.

I am a newbie to the forum, so if this has been discussed I am sorry for the convenience.

I just purchased a Japanese Aerodyne Strat. I love it, however, it fell and the high E tuner bent. It still works, however, it looks out of whack. The tuners that are on it are the open slots, I am not a big fan of them. So my question is:

Has anyone change tuner keys on an Areodyne? If so what tuners did you go with?

I really do not want to drill, I would like to just drop them in and go.

Thanks for all your anticipated help...
Tom

I would go with the vintage style tuners that are on it already. That model has a really vintage guitar vibe, so they fit the overall style. Once you get used to them they are great. But I would imagine any standard fender tuners would drop right in, without modding, locking tuners are a different story, but normal Fender tuners should be pretty universal, though you might need to make sure its a Japanese replacement part, It's possible US and Japanese parts are different sizes (metric vs imperial.)

Hi yukonotis, welcome to the Forum.

The Aerodyne Strat listed on this website has Fender/Ping tuners, but I notice elsewhere the Japanese one is described as having Gotoh Kluson style tuners.

That gives you plenty of choice. Some, but by no means all, of Gotoh's vintage style tuners are to be found here:

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Guit ... Tuners.ssc

Have a search around, because Gotoh offer many variations all with that same sized casing at the back. You can have slotted posts or holes, staggered height posts and/or lockers.

Alternatively, this page has a festival of Kluson tuners to look at:

http://www.wdmusic.com/shop_by_category ... _line.html

The only thing you need to be careful about is the fixing screw spacing at each end of the machine casing. So long as that is right new tuners should just drop in. Oh, and double check the size of the tuner hole in your headstock. Not knowing it well, I was slightly suprised to read that the Aerodyne seems to take vintage style tuners, presumably therefore with 11/32 inch diameter peghead holes?

Cheers - C
