my post on the EJ goldtop thread was strictly tongue in cheek regarding EJ's stupid idea's as to where paint/plastic should/shouldnt be.

Nick I just thought it was a cool thread and the fact that the guitar was going for the price it was.My point was that he replaced the 3 tunuing pegs with 3 from another 52 which would not be easy to come by.But in the world of Big money collections this is what these guys do .where as you and me would get the best part to suit the job /KEEP ON ROCKIN

certainly Mr Straycat, id snap that guitar up given half the chance. I'd even like to meet EJ just to see if he does anything unusual to the soles of his shoes :P .

Hopefully some of my guitars will be worth something one day. Theres good argument for and against. I cant see them reaching the fabled status of 50's/60's guitars. But they may fetch a few quid for the kids. Its certainly a nice thought that when i'm gone they or even their kids can profit from things i love.

Vintage Guitars have more than a price stuck to them. They have a story to tell. A life, practically.

I would probably buy an early or mid 70s strat in a year or two, due to its affordability. These strats are just as good, or better, than an american deluxe strat.

And if I owned an all original 50s strat, I definitely would play it often. I also wouldnt need a giant collection of guitars.

Due to ocwen federal bank among others land isnt that good a investment at the moment. If we do get out of this depression it will return to normal though. In october i was considering a nice house in ohio going for the price of a masterbuilt strat.

Check detroit you can get land for the price of a cheap pedal.

Yeah i could buy the house, a perfect project for me to do up. I just cant get back into the country since i've started to be honest about my past.

Gotta say for a country thats essentialy evolved from different nationalities, you've a damn tight border control.

I have no problem with collectors who want to shell out thousands of dollars for vintage instruments. Those old Fenders from the 50s and 60s are indeed valuable -- not necessarily because they're so much better than today's Strats and Teles (although in many cases that might be true), but because they are rare. Just like a mint condition Mickey Mantle baseball card or a well-preserved Superman comic from the 1940s, there simply aren't all that many of them in existence. There is a certain inherent value to them by virtue of that scarcity.

I do, however, have to laugh a little any collectors who'd shell out thousands (or even tens of thousands) of dollars for brand new limited edition guitars that are truly worth only a fraction of their cost (that $25K Eddie Van Halen guitar is probably the most ridiculous example of this trend -- I wonder how many of those were actually sold). It seems highly unlikely that many -- if any -- of those expensive signature models will ever see much appreciation in value.

I've only played my 57hotrod a couple of times in the near year i've owned it, exactly for investment purposes. Suppose that includes me then.

I'd say we as guitarists and both fender and gibson owe a lot to collectors of yore. How else would these 2 companies have gotten vintage instruments that they could clone. The original spec's for the strat and tele were lost a long time ago during the cbs takeover. Todays reissues are based on vintage instruments that fender have managed to study.

say it aint so niki, say it aint so.... :(
57 hot rod is a serious piece of wood and steel that is just beggin to rock the crap out of the blues... but its ok, im sure you play your 50th anniversary am deluxe, right???? :?

Financial guy, huh?

Simply can't understand the disaster the financial industry is in, with brains like that at work. How come we're not all millionaires with our money in safe hands the like of his...?

(And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the famous British irony of which you've heard tell...)

No there all in their cases and bought out once a month to play for half hour, clean, then back to the case they go. Just to keep them in tip top form. The deluxe was a bit different in that it required a good deal of fretwork, doweling the straplock holes, nut adjustment and resetting the trem just to get it to an acceptable standard. Due to its previous owners tech. So it was kicking round the house for a few days until i was sure it was ok.
Look at it this way, when they get sold someones gonna get some great guitar.

I'm happy with my mexican strat and tele, i dont need anything else for live stuff. Their there to play to splinters and get regularly dropped, thrown, swore at, spilt beer on. Surely you wouldnt wish that on the anni or hotrod.

Ah. So he's the type that made a small fortune by starting with a big one. I can see how!
