I recently acquired a Stratocaster from a friend...It has a serial number of s732327 and an accurate fender logo (black center with gold outline), it also says MADE IN KOREA in tiny letters beneath the Stratocaster label. came with black pickguard and pickup covers with SORINA written in red. It has a wonderfully smooth and silky 4 bolt neck, with no metal parts on or near the heel and has a white 2 ply triangular truss rod cover, which covers an unusual truss rod,(non bullet style), there is no "skunk stripe" on the rear of the neck... pickguard is 2 ply, and has a three way switch. Pickups have a bar magnet on the bottom, and wires exit through the side. Pots are 500k, 11 screws on the Pickguard. Fender is only found on the neck.

Body routing could accommodate three humbuckers, and from top I can see through bridge cavity, neck picket originally had the number 2 written on it... neck bottom has no metal parts, no openings and has the number 20 written on it.. neck tuners are open gear in a 6 tuner strip, as in all of the tuners are uncovered and on a single metal strip. Neck plate has nothing on it...

Routing is more or less halfass on the bridge and input jack cavity...

Serial # leads me to believe 1977-1978 strat, but body and other features tell against... ANY storyline on this would be much appreciated, currently refinishing in olympic white...

To the best of my knowledge NO Stratocaster was manufactured in Korea from 1977-1978, aside from the squires. So what exactly is this, a prototype, a heavily modded frankenstrat?

Trying to get 1500-3500 on ebay for a nice warwick thumb...

dont sound genuine to me. I could very well be wrong though, i'm in no way an expert. A picture or two would be nice to ascertain validity.

I am with Niki on this. Don't sound right so pics would help. A Korean fender late 70's with bolt on neck,11 screw guard, what sounds like a bathtub route and well pics please!

Sounds like one of the bad Pacific RIm copies... many of them came to the US with Vietnam vets.

It's not a Fender. No Strat neck ever had a truss rod cover, so that's that.

As for the eBay price, well.... to put it bluntly, you're dreaming.

Hi alphablok: not sure but the features mostly sounds like a Korean Squier with a pirate decal applied to the headstock. Only thing against that is that I never heard of a fake decal with "made in Korea" written on it - kinda defeats the point of lying about the logo!

The other obviously non-Fender part is the trussrod cover. If that is original then this guitar never had anything to do with Fender or its subsidiaries. Within which case I'd lean toward an Aria fako-caster from the late '70s to '80s-ish. Of the other Strat copies of that era I don't remember one with a trussrod cover - but I'm hardly an expert!

Don't think we can get much further without pictures: care to post some?

Cheers - C

Given the description you'd be lucky to get 10% of that price above.

I recognize that serial number!

There were a LOT of fake Fender Strats that used it.

Do a Google on it to find out more.

Or just look here: http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... hp?p=95877

Gosh, that's impressive! But you know what? Not surprising. If anyone would remember a number like that it would be Orvilleowner. 8)

372372 seems to be a common number for fake everythings. Its common on fake auto parts too.

Not in the least, header is completely normal (not flying V/explorer style), planning to do some heavy modifications...(280$)

Fender F tuners (x6)
3x Seymour duncan ssl1 single coil pickups (EPIC WIN)
Fender Strat Tone upgrade kit (3x250 pots, 5 way switch, tips etc...)
Fender chrome neck plate (F logo)
Fender aged white pickup covers (x3)
Nitrocellulose Olympic white (Reranch.com)
Nitrocellulose Lacquer (Reranch.com)

I plan to paint the neck pocket, interior, and headstock, (over the logo) but not neck or fretboard, as the neck is the most gorgeously silky neck ever...

The guitar itself sounds a hell of a lot better than my brother's strat, but this well make it near worth it... (prolly just set up as a 1200$ buy it now)

Now that sounds like a honourable plan for a good guitar that unfortunately happens to be a fake (fake and good can both be used in the description of a guitar).

Upgrade the hardware.
Cover the fake logo up.
Sell it as the guitar it really is, a decent copy.

One thing instead of a F logo'd neck plate why not try one of these beauties

Because simplicity and lowest price possible is key, Legit strats don't have those, Trying to get as close to the real thing without going overboard is reasonable, the previous owner had the neck swapped due to heavy damage on the original, having handled several strat necks, I find that my neck is superior in tonal qualities, as well as finish...

$1000 is all i really need anyways....
