i recently acquired a stratocaster in a trade and i want to learn a little more about what i have acquired. the serial number on the back is mz3035590. using that i know that it was made in mexico in 2003. but there is also a "special edition" sticker on the backside on the top of the head. the guy i got it from didn't seem to know much about it. anyone know what is so "special edition" about my guitar?

* the tuning heads are slotted instead of eye-hole
** its mint green and i cant find the color on any strat color chart

but thats about all i see that may be different. any help would be awesome.

Post a picture it would help alot. Special edition usually means they made a limited number of that type of Strat. Sometimes they would put a number like 24 of 250 at the bottom of the headstock near the neck in a script.

Yes we need more info it is most likely an FSR.

That's a real nice looking vintage reissue ('60s styling) Stratocaster.

If the person you bought it from couldn't tell you anything about it (like from which retailer it originally came from), there's a good chance that you'll never know! Fender does a lot of these for their dealers and they don't usually get listed on the Products section of this www.fender.com website.

Seems more like Sonic Blue to me. Looks like a great guitar.

Definitely s 60's classic series in a special color; sonic or sky blue maybe. Nice guitar. I Like the Blues jr. behind it too. Hope it plays as good as it looks... :)

“FSR” stands for Fender Special Run. These products are specially commissioned by individual dealers and built to their specifications. As they aren't regular production models, FSR instruments and amps aren't generally available to every dealer, and Fender seldom provide specs or listings for them on its website. Your local dealer, however, should be able to provide detailed specs for any FSR products they offer.

Hi npautler, welcome to the Forum.

Now you know what "Special Edition" means everything else you need to know about your Strat is apparent to the eye, with the single exception of the exact pickup model. And that you will never discover, unless you can find which retailer it was originally built for, and ask them what the pickup specs were. Maybe they'll have a record and maybe they won't.

By all means ask the guy you swapped it with if he knows its origin, but I'm guessing he may not have been the first owner (for then he'd surely have told you about it's FSR status). I suspect you will simply have to judge the pickups by ear...

Nice looking Strat, anyhow.

Cheers - C

thanks for all the feedback. just curious as to what i acquired. i dig the sound of this guitar and its my first strat ive ever owned.

im pretty sure its mint green or sea foam green. there is no blue in the color. in the pics it does look kinda blue but im assure you its green. and i have yet to find a match at any color chart.

but thanks again for all the feedback.
