Some aftermarket pickguards have the knobs spaced a little farther out, and pull them away from the bridge a little. I hope this helps.

yea, the volume knob can get in the way a bit. but just keep practicing it, and hopefully you'll get used to the knob being there, and you'll stop moving it.

what i do when i palm mute a strat is, i put my little finger in directly in front of the volume knob, and i use it to keep my hand from moving when i mute. doing this means that you'll have to strum muted notes by moving your wrist and fingers more, rather than using your arm and wrist like normal.

i dont know if i explained it clearly, but all i can say is practice it a lot, and you'll get used to it.

I HATE the location of that thing. I'm on my fourth Strat and I've moved the volume knob on every one. Who needs a tone control? Dump it and move the volume pot over to the next hole.

what do you mean by directly in front towards the neck or on top of the knob

when i say in front, front is directional towards the neck. i put my little finger directly to the side closest to the neck, and use it to stabilize my muting hand.

i mean, you probably have your own way of muting, but thats how i do it, and once you get used to it, it works well. i hope it helps a little.

I'm a little unsure how you're hitting the volume knob while palm muting. I was taught a blues style of muting. When palm muting, your hand should be on the bridge, and not too far forward so the strings are silenced, well away from the volume knob. Also, mainly you're muting the bassier strings which means your hand is towards the top of the bridge. Shouldn't have a problem with the volume knob.

Amp knobs!! Thinner shaft part which helps a lot!! I always take the opportunity to make sure my volume is on 10when I palm mute buy putting my pinky on the knob and pull my pinky up, if the knob doesn't move it's on ten, if it does move, it goes back to ten!!
