Thanks for the help!

I have a deposit on it, is the one you are getting a Sienna Burst?

The reason I ask, is I have the Sales Price Tag that was on the guitar and it says Aged Ch on it for the color.

I realize they are close but this one is orange-red in to yellow, with the Sienna's I've seen they seem more chestnut-red / to an opaque honey that lets a lot more of the grain to show through.

I wish I had better photos.

So cmon when do we get the skinny on the VG? How does the tele setting bridge and neck pickup tone compare to the same setting on the gilmour?
How does the lespaul sound on the VG compare to the clapton under full boost? Its a mod i always thought was meant to emulate a lespaul.

VG's are still around the £1000 mark in the uk.

Well Wingman says elsewhere that he's owned two, so he's likely played the tar out of it already and hopefully formed firm opinions. My noodling around with it suggests that it offers one a palate of tonal colorations in one hand which can be used to advantage in performance. Strat tone is 'stratty', Tele-tone is twangy', the humbucker tone is full and thick, not unlike something you can get from the S-1 switching circuit, the baritone is an enjoyable deep bass booming which one could likely enhance through the right amp and actually 'double' bass with....the '12 string' is interesting but certainly not a 'Rick', and the acoustic, well, is so, so.

Having an LP with burstbuckers, a Gilmour, and an '89 Clapton with Lace Sensors the comparison is equal to a GT40 kit car up against the real thing.

Looks good, drives well, and is fun, but it ain't no million dollar collector's car.

Gotta go. Full day. Will catch up with ya'll on the rewind. Gotta remember Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott's on my cable station tonite.

Doc.

Quite honestly, I haven't paid much attention to the finish. It may rightly be Aged Cherry for the entire run. I edited kthe finish out of my comments. I often do things like that and find that my originals are read too quickly. Anyway, I've seen the guitar and it does look more like your photo. The matter of not taking it the day I was there is part of earlier discussion. Now life is getting in the way, and my guy called out last week. It's isn't going anywhere and well, if it does, what the hell.!

Do it!

Doc

It's mine - I put a deposit on it. I just wanted to dig a little about it before I pulled the trigger.

Thanks again!

Well, here is my take on the GC FSR VG.I've had it for about 2 to 3 weeks now and I really love it.I have 6 other strats 2 American Deluxe{one HSS,One SSS} these have SCN's and the HSS has a DH1 humbucker.Of course they have the S1 switch.2 57 reissue one with vintage noiseless pickups and 7 way switching. And one with Hot noiseless. And a custom I built with A Deluxe players sunburst Ash body with Jimmie Vaughan V neck, that one has SCN's.I also have a standard with HSS.What I'm trying to get at here is that all of these Strats have a similar sound, sure they are all subtilely different some are better than others but the range of tone is similar. Not the VG the tonal range is very wide and diverse.I really love this guitar because if I want to play a regular strat,I'm on the SCN which sound fantastic,Switch to the model modes and all those settings are very nice, alternate tuning fantastic, and Although I've heard some say that the acoustic modes are just ok I find them to be my favorite.I really like the acoustic mode in 12 string tuning with the 5 way switch in position 3.
I LOVE the specifications of this guitar,The American Deluxe V neck the locking tuners the Deluxe bridge with pop in trem arm{my fav.} the SCN pickups And although I can't prove it at this time my examinations and the additional 8oz weight over my std VG It looks to me like the body is ash.All the tuning modes are a fantastic tonal palate to work with and with nimh rechargeable batteries and a charger you can play for a really long time with no problems. So in conclusion I have to say that I am exteremely happy with my FSR VG and can never really thank zzdoc for turning me onto this superb model,It may just be the perfect Stratocaster for me.Craig

Dear zzdoc
Although I don't know how I wonder if we could follow up on if these FSR VG's do in fact have an ash body, would it be possable to contact niki if he is the expert in this area?
The reason I suspect that the GC FSR VG has an ash body are these.
1.When inspecting the Fender catalog it appears that Aged cherry in the American Deluxe Stratocaster series is only available in an ash body.
2.Added weight,my standard VG weighed 8lb.1oz. and my FSR weighs 8lb.8.7oz. this is consistent with the weight difference between other ash body strats compared to alder body ones in my collection.
3.When looking at a transparent finished alder body I usually see slightly darkish veritical lines, these lines are different and less apparent on an ash body.
4.It has been my experience that Fender has to use much more sealer on alder transparent finishes and upon close examination this seems to "muddy" the look of the base wood, usually on ash far less or no sealer seems to be required and the grain of the wood shows through much better.
If anyone has any thoughts or information on this I would welcome your input.Craig

I'm almost certain that it is ash. Consumer Relations sent me the specs on that guitar, via regular email, last summer, on inquiry. We can wait for confirmation through the Forum, or you can send to Fender as well.

It's not something I personally would perseverate about, like ufr's quest for the Holy Grail of EC Strats.

Dear zzdoc
My apologies if I have become a pest about these thing, the last thing I wish to do is become"that guy" and become a bother. Sometimes I guess my enthusiasm overcomes reason and for this I am sorry. Thanks to you and Scott L for you nice comments and information. Cheers,Craig
