I just wanted to thank zzdoc,I just purchased a VG really liked it.I posted on another thread that while I was waiting for the VG to arrive I spotted a type of VG that I did not know existed. So I asked if any knew of this American Deluxe based VG and Mr.zzdoc responded that it was a Guitar Center American Deluxe FSR VG,He also gave ,me some information on it as well and at that time I filled him in on the location of the one I saw.He then replyed that he had is local GC do a nationwide search and purchased one for $1099 as this was only $100 more than I bought my std VG for I went nuts because I really wanted a FSR Vg.
Long story short I'm going to return the std VG to MF and take advantage of there very generous return policy.I have already Picked up the FSR,and am Loving it.Thanks again ZZDOC,Craig. :D

Doc's diagnosis is usually spot on. My hotrod attests to that

[quote="wingman111"] I'm pleased that you are enjoying your new guitar.

On my end, there was a glitch in the electronics in the one which arrived for me. The powerlight went on, then off immediately, and remained off, when the cable was plugged in. (Be sure to disonnect your cable when not in use.)

The dealer has to have the guitar checked out by their tech. They didn't have any AA batteries in stock for us to begin with that. I'll know more mid-week.

There were only 35 of those FSR's around nationally when I ordered mine. I hope this delay will not shut me out. At least you have yours.

    Dear ZZDOC
Sorry to hear about your FSR VG,I have a bit of experience with the VG as I had the standard model briefly,If the batteries are dead you should be able to use the Strat pick ups even if they are dead.Generally the batterys are low and the light flashes to warn you that they are low, full charge the light is on at all times with the cord plugged in to the guitar. You may know all of these thing but I just figured I would through it out.
I have done a fair amount of research on the subject of ni-mh batteries and have found that the Duracell rechargables in 2650ma are the ones to have and these can be sourced at camera stores or Target stores. There are many milamp ratings for rechargables but Fender reccomends 2600 to 2700ma batteries. The FSR that I got had the batteries go dead almost immediately and if you think about it they are standard alkalines that have been sitting for a year or more,I already had the high ma. batteries from my previous VG. Also since you are the owner of a Custom shop strat how would you compare the overall quality of the FSR to the Custom shop one you have. Thanks again.cheers

Once they've doped out the glitch and I have a guitar in my hands I'll be able to answer your comparison questions.

Keep in mind that this FSR is an American Deluxe less the S-1 switching system, with a V-neck, locking tuners and a contoured heel.

Thanks for the heads up on the batteries.

    Doc

Not as yet. The tech was to have been in today and the guitar had been put on his list of things to do. I've learned that these people have their own priorities. The deal is good and if they want to keep it, they have to deliver. This is a Que Sera' situation.

Thanks for asking. I will keep you informed.

    Doc

The issue was simply the battery pack. Once properly equipped, it played fine. I'll collect it on Saturday, go for those batteries you recommended, and somewhere along the line I'll have at it. This being Mother's Day weekend, it will likely spend most of the time in the case.

Go into the Custom Shop Forum and find the thread on the EC Custom Shop Stratocaster. The latest post by a new owner of a Todd Krause built EC Strat, (his specialty), should interest you.

I'll have that new guitar home tomorrow. More later.

    Doc

I found this FSR VG at my local Guitar Center - Age Cherry. The sales guy knew nothing about it - not even what FSR stood for.

Can anyone enlighten me about this guitar?

Sorry for the low quality of the photos...

    Thanks

In addition to all the chit-chat above what you have there is a Fender Special Request by Guitar Center for a limited run VG Stratocaster based on the V-neck Fender American Deluxe. (Large volume dealers do FSR guitars with Fender quite often).I believe that the guitar appeared last summer. It has all the body features of the American Deluxe V-neck, which you can find in catalog specs, and the VG electronics. At the price GC is selling it for, which should be about $1200 with case, shipping and tax, it's a steal. I am told that they are losing about $200 on each sale as it is. Mine is still waiting for me to pick up. As soon as I can find another free minute on my weekends. If this guitar looks well enough unplayed to you, and you have the bucks, it would be an interesting toy to add to your collection. That's my reason for acquiring it.

You might also search for Wingman's other post on the topic and review the conversations there. I am sure that will round you out completely.

P.S. Sales staff unacquainted with or uninformed about product is not uncommon, and one of the major beefs members of the Forum have.

    Keep us posted.

    Doc.

    Doc notoriety becomes you

So cmon when do we get the skinny on the VG? How does the tele setting bridge and neck pickup tone compare to the same setting on the gilmour?
How does the lespaul sound on the VG compare to the clapton under full boost? Its a mod i always thought was meant to emulate a lespaul.

VG's are still around the £1000 mark in the uk.
