I was given to understand that the best bone to use was the lower leg of a cow. Due to the cows weight its compressed dense bone down there.
I'll try pig bone it may give a good result based on the weight assumption.

I can see a safari trip comming up.

Incidentaly whilst journeying the towns art and modeling shops yesterday i happend across a very nice saw and set of files perfect fon nut cutting/shaping. Got em both for £20.

Ever see that prs dragon that had mamoth ivory among other things on the fretboard inlay. Yeah i'd love to slap some of that on there.
My nextdoor neighbour a few years back decided to dig a lump out of his lawn and dug up a mini cooper that the builders had buried.

Oh all right. I took a photo of this after all, cos I thought it was funny. Here's a gift of a bone from my neighbor, complete with soil from burying in the garden and, if you look closely, teeth marks from her greyhound.

We had my wife's new office assistant to visit for the weekend last month, and when we got back from the beach one day this was waiting outside the door. My wife's PA got a very strange look on her face, like; "Who ARE these people...?"

My Wifes family live in a house thats about 110 years old a few years ago we were digging in the yard and found a broken Grave marker, did no go any deeper to look for other things but he has since uncover a second marker of some kind made of marble with initials on it and a covered over hand dug well filled with junk. I told him the junk in the well might be cool.

All this is becoming quite intriguing. Anyone in your neighborhood given to baking meat pies yet?

The rise in takeaway restraunts has depleted the alleycat population. There are quite a few barbers for a small town too. Population 20,000, barbers shops 17, Hairdressers 19,976. Sadly meat pies are on the decline in favour of curling tongs.

Gam Wah, a Chinese restaurant on Long Island, about 40 years ago, enjoys the notoriety of preparing 'General Tsao's Cat."

[Sunday 17 May] CALLING NIKININJA!

just bumping this thread to ask The Ninja whether he's still hunting for a cow leg bone?

Niki, I'm at the South West end of my regular circuit, and went to our magnificent local butcher at Dean Court Farm Shop in Buckfastleigh (he definitely deserves that small plug in this unlikely place). I asked him if he had cow bones suitable for guitar nut making and he went and prepared me this one, which he gave me at no charge:

I asked him about BSE, and he adopted a very weary expression and talked about the frustrating misconceptions that float around over that issue. That bone is perfectly legal, decent, honest and truthful.

So. If you still want one it would be my great pleasure to saw you off a chunk of that bone and mail it up to you - and I suspect doing so would give everyone else a good laugh too.

That bone weighs over eight pounds, so I may not send the whole thing. Choose the middle section, or left or right end, and it shall be yours.

Cheers - C

PS Hope your gig went well. The uniform sounds charming: that's a photo we want to see!
