Does anyone have any opinions on a a good overdrive pedal that suits a strat? I hear good things about both Boss and Ibanez tube screamer.

Both of these have a bewildering array of pedals though. For example, why is TS808 tube screamer supposed to be better than the others?

+1 on the Boss Blues Driver. Great classic rock tone. I only have that one pedal, so I'm not sure about how to chain them together.

I think the Boss Blues Driver is a great pedal, but I actually prefer the Boss SD-1. I have an old one that was made in Japan during the '80s, and although I can't tell the difference, they're apparently "better" than the new ones. In any event, I think the SD-1 is a good pedal; it's got a little more grit than the Blues Driver, and when the dirt is turned all the way down and the volume up, provides more of a "kick" to a tube amp than the BD-2. That's my preferred method of using it: drive at 1, volume at 10....tonecity.

The Screamin' Eagle costs less than a TS-808, and is that and more.

Get a used TS9 for 50-60 bucks and replace the chip with a JRC yourself.

I use a couple of Modtone pedals and really like them. Great bang for the buck.
Try the DynoDrive overdrive and/or the Speedbox distortion pedal.

vox Wah > Fuzzface knockoff > fulltone Univibe > Giannini Thunder Sound III (Replica of a Marshall Super Lead)

I use a 2001 squier strat with very low pickups.

I Have some great pedals but if you only want to get one get the digitech JIMI HENDRIX it is all you will need between your guitar and amp it is the best pedal in my opinion for a strat. There are so many features, ocavia, fuzz, clean wah, high gain wah, great clean sounds. There are to many tones ans sounds to mention and each are dead acurate to the 7 songs they copy. But the best thing is you dont even have to be a hendrix fan(I WORSHIP JIMI) to take full advantage of this pedal. The clean tone for the WIND CRIES MARY is great for anything use it for your own originals .The fuzz and wah tones are out of this world again use them for your own songs or songs that call for these,It is just a big bag of goodies in one .But your going to have to get the foot switch which does not come with it to be able to gig with it as the toe and heal switches are just to hard and slow to switch easy chek it out,/KEEP ON ROCKIN.

Yeah but to me there's nothing like achieving a sound manually.

The Fulltone OCD was practically made for Strats.
