If you expect it to sound like Angus's pickup you will probably be disappointed. The Gibson neck scale is very different from the Fender scale, which is generally the source of most pickup disappointment. I'm not gonna say it will sound bad, but it will sound much different than what it was meant to sound like. This may be better or worse for you. Either way you won't know until you try.

Now for my 2 cents.

1. You can put a Gibson pick-up in a Fender.

2. It does not mean you are going to get the same Gibson sound from a Fender...After all a Fender is a Fender.

3. There is nothing wrong with a HSS, HSH, HHH, or even a HH configuration on a Fender. I have seen them in all configurations and they were all really nice guitars. The HHH was a little hard to take at first.

4. If you want that Angus sound, buy a Gibson SG.

5. In the end it is you that will have to pay and play that guitar so do whatever you want to it to make it better for you.

To me, there is something fundamentally wrong with putting a humbucker in a strat. I'd say, if you want that tone, go for an SG or LP. Get a strat for the twangy single coil.

That said, I can see how people like HSS strats. They make great all-around guitars. However, I wouldn't buy an Angus Sig. They're much more expensive than most pickups, and honestly, I'd say you're mostly paying for the name. I haven't found them too be that much nicer quality. If I were you, I would look to Seymour Duncan. They make excellent pickups, and then generally sell for a little less than Gibson's pups. I personally prefer them to Gibson's, but again, that's just me. Anyways, on the SD site there's a great little thing called tone wizard that recommends pickups based on your musical tastes. I find it to be quite helpful.

Just my $0.02

I wholeheartedly agree.

IMO, the closest to the Angus Young pickup in the Duncan line would be the Duncan Custom. However, even Angus Young doesn't use his signature pickups (or guitars for that matter) the majority of the time. So, the closest in the Duncan line to what is in the bulk of Angus' SGs would be the Duncan 59er.

While considering your selection, also verify that your Strat's string spread will line up with the polepieces of whichever HB you are zeroing in on. Proper string / polepiece alignment really does make a huge difference regardless of what people say to the contrary.

+1

Ah, the SD '59...that sounds good in just about any guitar though.

And you also have another point, its a good idea to make sure that you find the right "F-Spaced" pickup(s). Most times it'll say on the box of the pickup if its F-Spaced or not though.
