Hello,

Can someone tell me if it would be wise to install an Angus Young signature humbucker in a Fender Stratocaster ?

Thx.

To me, there is something fundamentally wrong with putting a humbucker in a strat. I'd say, if you want that tone, go for an SG or LP. Get a strat for the twangy single coil.

That said, I can see how people like HSS strats. They make great all-around guitars. However, I wouldn't buy an Angus Sig. They're much more expensive than most pickups, and honestly, I'd say you're mostly paying for the name. I haven't found them too be that much nicer quality. If I were you, I would look to Seymour Duncan. They make excellent pickups, and then generally sell for a little less than Gibson's pups. I personally prefer them to Gibson's, but again, that's just me. Anyways, on the SD site there's a great little thing called tone wizard that recommends pickups based on your musical tastes. I find it to be quite helpful.

Just my $0.02

If I had a HSS I would go for it. They sound good in a SG. The SG is my 2nd fav guitar. The 61 RI are fantastic.

I wholeheartedly agree.

IMO, the closest to the Angus Young pickup in the Duncan line would be the Duncan Custom. However, even Angus Young doesn't use his signature pickups (or guitars for that matter) the majority of the time. So, the closest in the Duncan line to what is in the bulk of Angus' SGs would be the Duncan 59er.

While considering your selection, also verify that your Strat's string spread will line up with the polepieces of whichever HB you are zeroing in on. Proper string / polepiece alignment really does make a huge difference regardless of what people say to the contrary.

I originally bought an HSS Stratocaster because I needed my one guitar to be as versatile as possible. So I needed a humbucker. But I have more guitars now, and I'm going to convert the Stratocaster back to a real SSS configuration. I have become convinced that humbuckers just don't really belong in Fender guitars. But do as you wish.

I personally love the look and "playability" of Fender Strats and Teles, but the bridge pickups are way too bright for me, though the look of an HSS strat turns me off. I solved that problem by going with the Seymor Duncan Lil 59 in my Strat and my Tele. The pickup oozes classic rock tone and doesn't change the Fender "look".

You CAN put a Angus Young Humbucker in your Strat.
I own numerous "cross-pollinated" Strats with Gibson pups and they sound AMAZING!!

There is NOTHING wrong with putting a humbucker in a Stratocaster!
The HSS format is one of the most versatile pickup configurations!!
I, at this time own 6 Highway One Stratocaster HSS's and 1 Amer. Dlx. Fat Strat as well as a '79 Antigua and a 60's Reverse Special.

I LOVE the Stratocaster!!! But in every love affair there are those little "things" you don't like about your object of affection.

My 'thing" is the bridge pickup on a Strat. I HATE it!! It's thin and piercing!!

In comes the HSS! I can now, in my cover band, go from Zep and Mountain to Hendrix WITHOUT switching guitars!

That 'TWANGY" single coil sound will NOT be lost on a HSS. When I go in position 2 on my axes...I can twang with the best of 'em.

Keep in mind string spacing when looking at something like this. Some will indicate F-Spaced for Fender string spacing.

I think that the stratocaster with hambuker ugly because he strat is beautiful only with SSS configuration... The HSS is only the desidere of another guitar with a strat body. If you want a gibson tone it's better that you buy a gibson... Cut it's only my opinion

I MUST make a correction here!!

The "F" spacing designation on pickups such as DiMarzio and such DOES NOT stand for FENDER spacing.

It stands for FLOYD ROSE spacing.
When you install a Floyd Rose tremolo. the spacing is different, especially on the bridge pup!
