Police wished me a Happy 4th of July. I asked him if that holiday was celebrated over in the UK. He said, "No, we just remember that date because it is when some piss ant little country left us."

Did he REALLY??? Sounds like on of those 'borrowed from someone else' anecdotes to me.....

I have no difficulty in imagining that policeman said that. I'm quietly surprised you asked him whether we celebrate that date though...

Also, a friend of mine claims upon being asked if he had a criminal record when entering Australia to have replied, "No, I didn't know it was still a requirement." My, he must have been popular...

BTW, Adrian: http://www.guitardaterproject.org/ is the answer to your previous question. It's not infallible, though.

He caught me off guard with the comment so for lack of something to say...I opened my mouth and inserted my foot.

The Austraila one liner is really funny.

+1 - Very true. Someone got a hold of my Ebay acct info and posted a bogus auction to sell a VW Jetta. eBay figured out what was going on before the auction closed, and the dude was arrested.

Entering countries tired and tense is one of those low points in our biorhythms, isn't it?

I wonder if Americans are aware of some of the bizarre questions that are on the immigration form for visitors to the US? Hot and irritable off a long flight I find it often takes all my concentration not to get highly sarcastic with an immigration officer who straight-facedly asks me whether I am a World War Two Nazi war criminal...

However, I've seen those who give a smart reply to that being lead off for a dose of the rubber glove treatment, so I usually manage to button my lip...

Wow!

Still. Nice to hear there's some policing going on, ain't it?

No kidding.

Shortly after 9/11, I was retunring from Mexico into Houston, I saw someone give a few smart $%@ answers to TSA. Marines took him away, I thought we were all going down for his mistake.

Ceri,

Peckham is a burrough near London...right?

Shortly after 9/11 I was leaving Marco Polo airport at Venice, Italy. All the added security meant our short flight left about 1 1/2 hours late. However, there was an American Airlines flight departing at the next gate: they started subjecting the passangers to all that same security - body searches, extra x-ray checks, etc. However, the passangers soon got cross with the waiting and began complaining so angrily that the Italians gave up and let them all on board and their flight left on time.

Not sure what conclusions I draw from that. But in general, if officialdom is dragging it's backside I usually find it is good news if there is an American in the line!

BTW: yes, Peckham is about two miles south east of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, etc. A mixed type of neighborhood.

Cheers - C

[quote="Ceri"]Ah-ha! A surprisingly quick search has found the guitar in question for sale for €980.00 on the website of a shop in Italy, right up on the Swiss border:

http://www.berdymusic.eu/prodotti/strum ... a_cfm.html

Strange background for a dealer to use when photographing a guitar for sale:?: :?
