Hi,
Hello all you Strat, Fender, and general music lovers. I have never posted on this forum before, or for that matter any forum. I have never been into online forums but the Fender Community, or more specifically the Fender Stratocaster Forum is my favorite. Members such as Niki, Ceri, CV, Feathers, fHopkins, 12bar, Big Jay, Martian, and many others that I can't recall right now(sorry my head full of Anchor Porter, please don't be offended if I didn't list your name) have taught me more in the last year than I have learned in my approx. 15 years of playing guitar. You guys are brilliant. I was laid of few months ago and still have no job prospects. (I've got a degree in Environmental Science from Univ. of Georgia so if you hear anything). Since I don't have busy days I spend alot of time on the Fender Community Strat Forum. You guys are about the only thing keeping me sane. It was nice not working for about a week, but now I'm going crazy with trying to find something to do. I have been really playing my guitars alot. One a 97 Fender American Strat in 3 color sunburst, the other a Seagull S6+Cedar Acoustic. They both sound great. Infact I just replaced the Strats pickups with a set of 1959 reissues made by a fellow in Canada named Jeff. He calls his company Copperhead and they are the real deal. I've also just purchased (on layaway) a 2008 Chrome Sliver Maple fretboard American Deluxe Strat for $1100 brand new. I know I'm unemployed but I just got my tax return so how could I resist considering the price hike. And yes this was at a local shop so I coul play it first and make sure it had no defects. But WOW! is sounded good and the neck felt great. Anyway I'm going to try to post some pics of my '97 Strat. Hopefully I can figure this out. Let me know if I need to do something different so I when my Deluxe arrives I can repost my '97 as well as my Deluxe.

Thanks to both of you guys. I recognize you both as regulars around here so that means alot to me being welcomed by you two. Texguitarslinger, you play alot of SRV type stuff if I remember correctly. I was thinking of going up to 11's on my strat. Can you hear I big difference between 10s and 11s (which I think you use). If not disregard the question.

Welcome. There are a lot of great peeps here.

Love the 97 MIA. My customized 98 MIA is my be-all-end-all of guitars. I love that guitar more than any I've had. Been through hell, countless gigs and is like my brother. Sitting here next to me now, in fact.

Good luck in the job hunt. Times are tough, but not impossible. Use this time to hone your skills and gig as much as possible. You can make what could be your darkest times into the best memories of your life. Cheers...

Thanks dgonz and the rest of yall for the warm welcome. :D You are right about turning these frustrating times into times in which I can practice constantly and hopefully get my band to step it up and actively look for some gigs. It seems like recently, everytime we may have a gig someone's got an excuse to not be able to make it. :? Oh well. Maybe time to find another band. Anyway, I never expected this many "welcomes" at this late an hour. Thanks boys. And yes I am a UT Volunteer fan although I graduated from Georgia. What can I say. Been goin to UT games since I was 4 so I can't just switch my teams.

No problem, I'm actually fairly new around here myself. :)

Yes, there is a slight difference in feel and tone. Going from .10s to .11s shouldn't take much getting used to. There's a big difference between .11s and .12s though. I use a hybrid set, the bottom three are what would typically be found on a set of .13s and the top three are .12s. I love their tone, but my hands don't last as long with them. And they're downright painful to play if you tune your guitar to standard. And since not all of the songs I play with my band are drop tuned, in fact most aren't, I've switched back to .11s until further notice.

Hi guys,

I have recently purchased and am waiting to pick up a new 2005 Fender american standard strat with 3 colour sunburst and maple neck. I would like to know a little more about this particular model from people who own or have owned one any comments would be appreciated. :)

Hi Russ, welcome to the Forum.

Butting in, but I happen to know the pedal on the right is an Electro-Harmonix Soul Preacher compressor. I know that - because I won one from Guitarist magazine! The prize included two other nice pedals too; all for sending a silly email to their letters page... :D

Cheers - C

welcome to the forum Russ. beautiful axe. lotta good people here. i learn stuff about guitars here all the time. (and i'm a know it all!!! so that tells ya how much some of our members know.)

People here are very helpful and friendly. sometimes we wander off topic, because we're always distracted by anything shiny.
