Most Ash bodies like Northern are heavy often an easy 1.5LBS + more then alder Swamp ash is much lighter then other Ash tress and closer to Alder and may even be less.

My 1985 contemporary fender made in japan is a little to light for my liking .I think its made out of basswood . I hope its basswood I read on the net somewhere it was ash. But its not a terribly big deal.

During several of my custom builds using genuine Fender bodies the difference is generally on the order of 8 to 12 ounces greater for the ash over the alder. But hey this isn't really weight lifting and we generally use a strap. If you want a really heavy Strat use mahogany.cheers

I can assure you they all don't weigh that. Ash bodied guitars can vary much more then Alder. Also not all species of Ash are light weight. Swamp Ash bodies are the ones that tend to be light but they still weigh in at 4 to 5 lbs themselfs just the body. Most other Ash can easy go well over 5lbs for just the body and its not rare to see 6 to 6.5 alone before hardware and neck.
