Yeah, that happened to me before. I have a pick set (hand tools not plectrums :) ) and used a straight pick that is skinny enough to go into to bridge from the top. Just give it a little bump and it should dislodge the string end that is stuck in the bridge block.

Fender tapers the inside of their bridge blocks to accomodate their own "bullet" style string ends (I think) , other brands get wedged in and...well you know the rest.

Hi marcus_aurelius: I had to think for a minute to remind myself what you were talking about. Which shows how long it's been since I broke a string.

So I guess frequent string changes seem to be the solution!

How can this happen? I have never had this happen to me in my life, and I've been around a long time.

Hi Soggycrow: casting back into memory, I remember that when the string broke at the saddle you'd sometimes find the ball end was slightly wedged into the block and the tiny remaining stump of the string didn't provide anything to get hold of with your fingers to push it through and remove it.

So it was necessary to find something thin which could fit down into the string hole from above to push that ball end out. I seem to recall I used to use one of the smaller allen keys in my case.

And having been all smug about how I haven't broken a string for a long time I expect I'll now immediately break three in a row! Within which case I hope I can be as stoical as Marcus Aurelius about it... (That's a Classical allusion, ladies and gentlemen...)

Cheers - C
