For science as extra credit we mus take something out of recycled parts.
I decided to use a old guitar neck, recycled wood ( to make a body) a used pickup, recycled bottle caps as knobs and other stuff

what do you think can i make a boddy and assemble the earth guitar in 2 weeks.

How about making a pickup? You only need one, right? A pickup is only magnets with wiring wrapped around it. Instead of doing 6 individual pole pieces, just do one big pole piece -- that is, just a single big standard magnet with used wire wrapped around it. Just keep adding wire until you get to around 5k ohms or so. (The pickup wizards in this forum are welcome to add their two cents to help me out here).

As for the body, it would be cool if you could find a big piece of plastic like the top of a big ice chest that has been thrown away. Something like that would allow you to carve in a neck slot, holes for the pickups and knobs, and is hollow for routing the needed wiring.

Just an idea......

I developed a strange desire to make a guitar body out of a piece of driftwood. Whenever I walk on the beach I keep an eye out for the right lump of timber. So far, no luck. Penty of railway sleepers/ties/spacers, many fence posts, nice heavily worn branches - but nothing I want to build a guitar from.

Could be a fun idea - but if you have a two week deadline I wouldn't count on it as a source of timber...!

Cheers - C

Ah, of course, so you said.

Well, in that case, luthier Mark Bailey has a party trick he performs at guitar shows: he builds an electric guitar from raw timber start to finish in three days flat:

(Beautiful archtops on that site...)

So two weeks should be no problem. Though I'm sure I couldn't do it...

A guitar body made from (recycled from) old weathered bard wood would be cool looking.

You could use a wooden cigar box for the body. This would make routing for the pups pretty easy. plenty of room for electronics. plus you may get some of that LP hollow body tone! but seriouosly, it would save a lot of time that may come in handy on unforseealbe issues like how to firmly attach the neck, or whether to add a bigsby or not. I may actually try this myself for sh!tt$ and giggles. 8)
