Hi,
I have a couple of 2006 MIM Strats, now they both come with the silver "60 Fender" badge and it got me thinking. What special additions did all the guitars produced in this anniversary year have? Also if the Strat only turned 50 in 2004, then why are these called 60th anniversray models? Is it because the Fender company came into being in 1946?

I think the differences are mainly cosmetic. I have an American Standard that came out that year and it just has a circular sticker on the back of the headstock. Otherwise, I think it's just standard.

This may help you though:

And to answer your question about the dates, yes it's a "60th Anniversary" of Fender, not the Strat in particular.

Yep apparently the company started in 1946........

This year, Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC) celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the company, which has grown from a small operation in Southern California into the world's foremost manufacturer of guitars, amplifiers, and related equipment.

Also I think the plain 60th year ones had the button on the back of the headstock and the special neckplate. But if you bought a strat in 2007 that was built in 2006 it didn't have any of that, like mine.
