Congratulations Doc! I had a feeling the way you've been talking lately that you would be buying one if you could find the one you wanted! G.A.S. gets the best of all us, even Doctors! Glad you found it! You know that pictures are required now!! (when it arrives) 8) :)

I have to set to work with respect to uploading those. The camera is presently in Florida.

I enjoyed the link to your dealer. They appear to a well organized lot.

They are a sort of small operation but can get you almost anything you want. That's where I got my Gilmour from! They are super helpful and have a very good tech. Glad about your VG Doc, It will be rare one day! :) 8)

On the search, GC actually had 35 of those around the country. Far more rare appear to be the Blizzard Pearl finish, which is very pretty...but nothing like the Sienna on this upgraded instrument. My interest also was in the V-neck on this guitar. I was playing the C neck version today. Found it to be extremely 'chunky' even for the so-called 'modern C.' They built those 'rolled shoulder' for that 'played in feel'. Not my thing. Our Gilmours have a far more delicate feel to them.

Great guitar all around.

No doubt about it! Your new VG being made on the Deluxe platform and also a FSR guitar makes it more desirable! Cool! 8)

Does anyone know if a new VG is coming out or has Fender pulled the plug on this model altogether?

I don't hang out here much anymore, so I was surprised by the announcement. MF has them for $999. They have never been priced that low.

Back at you again. If you look around the postings you'll see my notes on my purchase of a GC FSR Sienna Sunburst American Deluxe VG. $1099. I jumped at the chance, this guitar having a V-neck which is my preference.

I also had posted your question elsewhere. My salesperson believes that Fender is clearing overstock through dealer's special pricing. A great opportunity.

If there is another guitar coming down the pike to replace it, no one seems to know, or is saying. I personally would not be interested in anything like that Gibson Darkfire.

In these dark economic times I must confess even the $999 price tag may not be enough to induce another bout of GAS. I'm a bit apprehensive about dropping a grand on guitar #14 after the surprise layoff some time back. I was lucky my old company took me back after being "disloyal".

I really like the Blizzard Pearl and it appears they are sold out, only black and sunburst remain. I think 1/3 of my guitars are 2- or 3-color sunbursts so I'd like a bit more variety. Sienna sunburst would work!

Not only are times bleak economicaly speaking. I'd say their bleak on the musical frontier. The ending of this line with no sign of a replacement is a damning condemnation of our focus on yesteryear. Dont get me wrong i love the vintage vibe stuff but its not the be all end all that current trends are making it out to be. Lord alone only knows what it means to the development of music in years to come. Metal seems to be the only thing pushing forward to any notable degree. Lets face it metal is primarily the territory of the adolescent, not much use to me in 20 years.

Lets hope the current addiction ends soon

Every GC is able to search the national inventory. That's how they located my guitar. They execute an inter-store transfer. There were 35 such guitars in the national inventory. Fewere Blizzard Pearl in my immediate area but you might get over to Southern Blvd or closer and ask them to search .

. As for affordability, I've been using their "free" money for some time now and pay it off without any interest charges in the year's time.

I too have seen these guitars being sold really cheap here in Scotland - around half the original price. I was really suspicious of why Fender have dropped the model.

Is the guitar a standard American deluxe with the Roland add-ons and does it play and feel exactly like an American deluxe when not using the Roland pick-up?

When not using the Roland pick-up, I assume that the guitar does not run through the batteries?

This is pure conjecture ... but I bet the money Fender has to spend on R&D and warranty support don't make it a profitable product. Just like every other company right now, R&D dollars are scarce, and they need to be spent on that which will offer the biggest ROI ("return on investment").

The guitar was originally released as an American Standard modern C-neck sans the S-1 switching. Last summer, Guitar Center ordered an FSR American Deluxe V-neck in limited run. Both these models are being sold at deep discount. The American Deluxe has all the specs less the S-1 circuit.

My limited experience with the guitar suggested that the batteries must be charged even to run the standard circuit. I too was under the impression that the conventional circuit bypassed the Roland and was not dependent on an internal power source, however, when I called for my guitar two weeks ago, it wouldn't play even in standard. When the cable was connected. the monitor light flicked on, then immediately off They had the tech check it out several days later and confirmed that the batteries had run down. Perhaps next Saturday I'll have it, circumstances yet preventing me from getting over there since.

Wingman 111...on the "Thank you ZZDOC" thread has extensive experience with the guitar. You can post the question there. He doesn't seem to be following this one.

Doc.

Yes the VG is an American standard with Roland electronics added on.And yes when in the normal modes it runs through the standard pickups and if the batteries are dead or not installed it operates like a regular Strat. It does feel and play like a normal American standard and is no heavier than one either.Really a great piece of technology and at the blow out price its a much better deal than the Am Std,if you like the color selection.cheers,Craig

Just to review...that both the Standard and the FSR American Standard are on sale, the latter being less known. GC's can search their national inventory for stock, which is, doubtless, dwindling, and request inter-store transfers. If you are interested in one of the FSR Deluxe's I would move quickly. When I placed my order around 3 weeks ago, there were only 35 listed nationally, and less so with the Blizzard Pearl MIA Standards, another popular finish, but the neck not to my liking.

Just as an side...when the Deluxe was first issued, I was told, on inquiry, that a V-neck would not be available, so I built my own CS guitar based on a Clapton platform with SCN pickups. Long story. The order was in 6 mos, when Fender issued a V-neck option on the Deluxe. Then when the VG was issued, we danced the same dance, and the CS said they would NOT build a version of that guitar. Then GC does an FSR of exactly what I would have wanted right after I bought an '89 Clapton on Ebay. Then I acquired the Gilmour. Silently fearing the possibility of alimony payments, I intended to go on the wagon for awhile. Then this sale happens. Fortunately, given the way I bust my buns all year 'round, Father's Day/Birthday excuses prevail, and this deep discount helped me to plead my case.

G.A.S. is a terrible affliction from which Fender will never recover. 8)

Gotta go, I think England is on the other line.

Doc.
