Hi,
I have finally become the proud owner of the strat I have wanted for as long as I can remember. I turned 40 at the end of last month, a black 57 strat has been on my birthday list since I was about 25! (after I'd grown out of the charvel jackson locking trem era).

Anyway I ended up buying a 57 hot rod. Love the V neck of the 57 vintage but wanted fatter frets...ergo hot rod was ideal.

Now...the thing is, I have always wanted an all black strat with a maple neck.

I bought the fender accessory pack and sourced an 8 hole scratch plate, but the pickup covers aren't right. So, does any one know where I can get black pickup covers for these pickups. It looks like they are 50mm poles but they are deeper than the pickup covers that came in the set.

Dimarzio happily sent a black cover for the tone zone, who makes the neck and bridge pickup?

Any help welcomed.

I hate to say this.
I dont think SCN pickup covers can be changed.
Forum user CAFeathers has a contact at Bill Lawrence (who designed the SCN). Perhaps if he reads this he could confirm whether their interchangable or not.

I got a hotrod too to quote Al Jourgensen of ministry 'Jesus Built my hotrod'.

Is that the guitar I managed to finally bend your arm to purchase? (a nod to Knopfler for sure.) It was that finish that I auditioned in NYC when I was comparing necks between it, the CS Clapton, and the Artist Clapton.

On the pickups...I concur in your belief that they are sealed, but I was able to obtain them in black for the CS guitar I had built and eventually swapped out for my Gilmour. The OP should consider that route.

It's unlikely that their sealed then. I do think the extra earth wire could go to the pickup casing. It would be easy'ish to do at manufacture but very difficult as a mod.
Cant wait to be corrected as these pickups are my absolute faves yet are unexplored territory inside.

Can you tell me what is meant by sealed or not sealed and also why the covers could not be changed?

Cheers.

Sealed units are encased all round, like emg's.

[quote="BigJay"]I thought we already established that white was the superior pup cover. There is a very long and hot thread on this subject. If you recall, alledgedly the CS will soon ban all but white and black pup covers, but recommend only white for all CS jobs.MIMs can have black and some MIJs.

What does that tell you?

It tells me that this is a job for..................Mike Eldred
