Actually, if you read Dan Erlewines book "Guitar Player Repair Guide" he specifically mentions that it DOES allow you to play faster. He even says something to the affect of "I don't know why Yngwie says they don't affect your speed.."

Plus it seems like the guy making a living off playing fast would say anything to minimize his instruments contribution. Plus..it's Yngwie!
