In my constant search for the perfect pickup combo I have been playing with the Dimarzio Area line of pickups.
I have found the perfect combo for me in the neck and bridge is the Area 67 in the neck (A very wide smooth scooped tone) an area 58 in the middle and I just swapped out my Area 61 in the bridge with a DP409 "Heavy Blues 2"

So far i'm loving it. It really thickens up the bridge tone. I see almost no mention of it anywhere, but based on the simple treble mid bass response on the Dimarzio site I thought I would give it a try.

Has anyone else tried this pickup?

I had an MIM Buddy Guy with those Blues Series pickups. Can't remember the numbers, it was over 5 years ago and the guitar was traded out, but I was quite satisfied with what they could do.

It didn't sound at all like a Strat pickup in my guitar but it did the job in terms of beefing up distorted soloing. Played clean, it sounded flat to muffled due to an overwhelming midrange. YMMV.
