Has anyone tried this? If so. What are your thoughts?

Thanks, Mike

Got it and love it. Its the only thing i'll put on my guitars nutwise. Not the ultimate answer to low end intonation but certainly a big step in the right direction. I ordered some nut files off this fella earlier he has a similar system that you set the level of compensation for each string.

Looks worth a go for $16. Or you could try Stephen Delpht's longstanding method.

If you look on my post further down the forum theres a link to why buzz feinten system doesnt work correctly. Its a 19 page document though so get plenty of coffee and smokes.

Thanks for the info... This is all tied into my thread with the taller frets. I'm thinking of getting and inexpensive strat. then outfitting with a Warmoth neck. I will definitely start reading the document you're referring to.

I put the earvana drop in model in my strat:

Image

I ruined 2 blanks before I finally got the shape right, but Rick at earvana was kind enough to replace both at no charge ( not only do they manufacture a great product but their customer service is second to none)

I wish I could provide some insight as to how the nut itself changed the tone of my guitar. Unfortunately, when I made this mod I also made several others (refer to the fender forum project thread for a complete list of mods) so its difficult to say exactly what the earvana contributed to the overall change in sound.

I'm going to give the Earvana a shot. It looks as if you did a good job on it. So, it's just putting it in place? Basically plug and play? And, What Marshall amp is that? How do you like the sound?

It was by no means "drop in" like I said, I ruined the 1st 2 trying to shape them to fit. But, let me also add that this was my first attempt at nut shaping. You may have more experience with such things.

The amp is a marshall MG30 solid state. LOVE the sounds I can coax out of it. My only regret was not getting the 50 watter.

Good Luck! ~ All_thumbs 8)

Mr Thumbs you made a very good job of it.
That guitar looks great. It may be worth getting someone to check the depth of the nut slots, if you havent done it already.

Great modding.

Actually I did that. Whereas I shaped the nut myself, I had a trusted tech friend install it and we did the final set up together. Do you see something we overlooked?

Cheers!

U done anything with that trem system yet?

I've used the trem system to mod my customshop guitar. The bar has been bent to allow me to reach the volume control whilst dipping the bar ala jeff beck. Also its nice to have the replacement posts and saddles at hand should i ever need them.

I dont see anything wrong with that nut. Infact its a very neat job. The strings do look close to the top which made me ask but a lot of people file the top of the nut once the slots have been set. It gives that clean as a pin appearance that you got.

I'm sure the compensated nut improves one's intonation.

There's also something that the good (Japanese) folks at Fuji-Gen-Gakki came up with that's suppose to improve intonation all up and down the fretboard. Because the strings are not parallel, the frets should not be parallel. Hence, the Circle Fretting System:

http://www.fujigenguitars.com/feature/CFS.asp

I have seen guitars with the CFS and you can only notice the curving on the highest frets.

There's fanned fret schemes too:
