Hi I just got an American Deluxe Strat, (2004, V-neck, 2 color sunburst, maple board...), she is one of the most beatiful guitars I've ever seen, I really like the tinted neck and age parts, everything is top notch but the case...I took her for a complete set up (I bought her new) but when she came back to me I didn't like her sound and feel(too thin, almost no sustain, pretty flat,) the frets feel a little rough now and action is little higher than before, now the tremolo is floating so I think that might affect the sound and sustain, the luthier told me to adjust the micro tilt to lower the action a bit but I've never done that before... but I'm not sure I bought this guitar new from internet but I don't know why she doesn't sound as good as she looks, is it because the set up or because the guitar?before I made my mind up and get a strat I borrow my friend's MIM strat (he takes his guitar for set up with the same guy I did) I was able to play shine on your crazy diamond and get that warm, round sound, but my deluxe just sound too thin with almost no sustain...Any feedback would help now!

Sounds like you got a bad setup! I can't believe after you had it setup and called and they told you to play around with the micro-tilt? Something is not right about that. Take it to a real tech. and stay with him and make sure you get it the way you want before accepting and paying! Good luck!
The MIA Deluxe is a great guitar and should play like butter and sound great! 8)

Its definately not the guitar. It was ok before you sent it to the clown. Bridge float makes little difference to sustain. Ive never heard any difference and have 2 strats set to float and 2 set flush. My deluxe (a sunburst 2004)is set to float. I think the guy has raised the microtilt and that could be causing the problem. Higher action does lend itself to sustain a little.

Sounds like he's leveled the frets and not smoothed them over. That will take a couple or three weeks to wear in to feeling normal. Its not brilliant standards but it should come back to good on its own if that is whats gone on.
The rest should be able to be addressed but without putting a hand on the guitar its very hard to say what to do. I'd forget playing it tomorrow simply out of professionalism. You should never gig a new guitar let alone one that has just had work done to it. The guitar is very much an unknown quantity and needs to be got used to before its taken onstage. Its a deluxe not a masterbuilt Chris Flemming thats good to go straight out the factory like keith richards would use live. Let alone take a guitar onstage thats only just been worked on that you dont like the current playability of.

Take you old faithfull to the gig. It will serve you better.

I just adjuested the micro tilt, to lower the action a bit, I'll take her for set up again next week, thanks for your advice guys, I'll play her a lot to smooth the frets...Seems like I'll be playing with My LP traditional again tomorrow night...I put 10's on her maybe next time I'll put some 11's,because I don't really know where the thin sound and the lack of sustain came from...

Play that LP like your duelling the devil mate. You'll feel a lot more comfortable on stage with a guitar you trust. Thats why all the big names pay their personal tech's stupid£££££ per day. Just to see that nothing goes wrong on the day of performance.
