hey all,

getting into some slide stuff lately and was thinking about making the action of the strings level with one another, rather than have them follow the contour of the fret board. has anyone else done something like that? i like using glass slides rather than those curved brass ones. im sure they make a glass slide thats curved like that but does anyone know of any in specific, so's to save me an hour of searching on the internet?? thanks!

B

I wouldn't flatten the strings- that would make it very hard to pick and choose which notes you want to hear- remember, when playing slide there is a lot of sustain and notes will sound simply by contacting the slide to the strings (imagine if violin strings were flat). You do need a higher action but I would advise against flattening out the radius.

they make curved slides? I have never seen one.

got any links to info on those?

the idea for good slide playing is to have a flat slide surface, on the curved string radius. That way you can play individual notes cleanly by changing the angle of the slide.
