How are you liking your Classic Vibe?

Loving it. I haven't had to tune it for a few days now. (Strings are finally stretched good.) Now I find myself debating on which guitar to pick up. They both play and sound great. I do find that the Bluesey stuff I play sounds a bit better on the Classic Vibe. Both are great for Metal.

The funny thing is I bought the Squire with the intentions of putting a Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge position; however, it may be my Highway 1 that gets it now.

Yeah, my Highway One is getting a little jealous. It's been hanging on the wall while I've been playing the heck out of the Squier. :D

I play both about equal. I am short of flipping a coin to see which one I take off the wall. But until I bought the Squire, my Fender was all I played for the past 6-7 months.

my AMdeluxe has that pickup route not as neat a neckpocket though. That looks one hell of a good guitar.

I like more wood in the guitar....hence the classic "50's SSS routing

+1 on that. Those closed 5 way switches are a hit and miss too.

Overall seems a very clean made guitar.

One more observation: 'a C-neck profile' on a 50's series guitar?? One more nod to economics of production. Just change the number of screws in the pickguard.

The Gilmour also has a C shaped neck (atleast thats what is written in the specs) and thats supposed to be a '57 reissue neck....

That's correct. The neck on the Black Stratocaster was swapped off one of several 1983 newly minted 57 Vintage reissue guitars which Dave acquired. They were the first of the newly reorganized company's offerings. David had a white guitar, from which the neck was taken. The other was the soon to become the famous Red Stratocaster into which the EMG pickups were installed.

That neck profile is closer to the V-neck on my '89 Clapton that to the 'modern C' neck which Fender seems to put on everything, and I find both my Gilmour and my Clapton equally comfortable to play.

I would have expected the neck presently on the 50's Roadworn to be on this new Squier.

Did you notice STA3 markings on those supposedly alnico V pickups? Mine is CV 50s version and pickups are marked STA5 and are alnico III. What happened there? Otherwise it is an awesome guitar.

On the neck topic I noticed a quite a bit feel/shape resemblence in the MIM road worn and new 09 MIM standard. Nut and string spacing are a little narower than on MIAs. These Squires are Fender licensed and I would not be suprised if they are using new metric standard CNC cutting.
